Blizzard must be really on edge after becoming known as the rape company to the point that they will shoot themselves in the foot to kowtow to any request. Either that or the Overton window is so far that this is the things companies have to apologize for. Maybe a bit of both.

They are viewing this as
- "Free" positive PR that's only going to tie up very non-essential staff (Overwatch "writers" and a few contracted voice actors). They're probably really desperate for good PR so this costs them next to nothing.
- Plausible deniability for pushing back Overwatch/OW2 content even further back. We'll never get to see what they had, but chances are they already have next to nothing - considering how little they have to show and how bad their company is (from a production standpoint). This lets them say things like "we had to scrap all the work we did because how how much McCree was involved, sorry guys!" and act like doing this is going to be a huge amount of work.

This is a "Golden Blizzard Opportunity" because it lets them make a big deal about doing a very little bit of work and lets them pretend they're actually doing tons of work.

I’m personally skeptical about it myself, but it sounds just retarded enough to be true considering the track record of Clown World. Assuming the entire Sexual Harassment lawsuit is centred around the Blizzard office (look, I haven’t really been keeping track, I stopped giving Blizzard money years ago) it might just be easier from a PR perspective for Activision to shitcan Blizzard entirely, and quietly move choice devs to a brand new studio to focus on CoD...

Pretty disappointed we won't be getting a bunch of new pve missions, and of course, story.
But I haven't cared about OW for a long time, and the abysmal amount of shit they showed for 2 during blizzcon (yay we made gunshots echo in tunnels and Widowmakers ult is slightly less useless bc sand) I just tucked OW away neatly in the little box full of everything else that died in current year that I liked.
I never played other blizz games, but I should have headed all my friends warnings about how incompetent they were with literally everything.

-Again, WoW brings in billions, why would they suddenly stop doing the thing that prints free money.
-This I could see going either way. The demand for Cataclysm and beyond getting classic releases isn't as high as the demand for Wrath.
-This is the same Blizzard that refuses to go out of its way to please fans. In alphas and betas, feedback for the awful systems added for WoW is ignored until the player count starts dropping. If they wanted to add new features, especially ones from FF14 (which is rumored to be a forbidden topic in Blizz offices), they would have started a long time ago. "Valansess" isn't a thing and is a weird red flag.
-Plausible, but WoW is already huge in China. This sounds like something that would be outsourced, not home team made. A shitty mobile port is more likely.
-Hearthstone's auto battler mode is a spinoff of a spinoff of a spinoff, and Blizz is adding special cosmetics to the auto-battler for Hearthstone. It's doubtful they'd commit the dev time for a whole new game when what they're doing already makes a lot of money for them.
-This is fanfiction. Overwatch 2 is mostly complete and recently got delayed, why would they consider it "unsalvageable"? Why would they not port the PvE modes over when it's the focus of Overwatch 2? "Failing to capture modern interest" is also nonsense, considering the game only came out 5 years ago and still has a solid playerbase despite a massive content drought.

Chacko Sonny, the executive producer for Overwatch and development head for Overwatch 2, is leaving ActiBlizz.

Chacko Sonny, the executive producer for Overwatch and development head for Overwatch 2, is leaving developer Blizzard Entertainment. According to Bloomberg, Sonny plans to leave at the end of the week, the latest departure in a larger exodus from the publisher following state and federal investigations into alleged sexual harassment and discrimination at the company.

A statement given by a Blizzard representative to Polygon regarding Sonny’s departure doesn’t mention the company’s ongoing legal battle or internal reckoning.

“Chacko Sonny is leaving Blizzard to take some time off after 5 years of service,” the statement reads. “The deep, talented Overwatch team is making excellent progress on Overwatch 2, and thanks to their hard work, the game is in the final stages of production. We’ll be sharing more at the Overwatch League Grand Finals later this month.”

The Overwatch League Grand Finals are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021.
