So, I haven't played Overwatch 2 in months, so what did I miss? A lot, so I'm trying the Stadium gamemode. So, they're going the Counter Strike route where you could "build" or upgrade heroes from currency. Firstly, I was confused as all hell seeing that armory menu.

Anyway, it appears to be round based where game modes alternate between rounds. No hero swapping, best of 5 wins. Okay, I can see where they're going with this. They took eSports to the next level, literally. Newer players will be overwhelmed with the layout. I know I'm sure as shit was.

Basically, you could create your own OP hero.
Just a new DPS hero which is annoying to face. There's still Mercy e-couple duos, crossplayers with aimbots, DPS instalockers and so on so not much has changed.

Stadium is fun figuring out all the builds until you realize every other match you're gonna face an insta-kill freja, M2 Hazard or some other low skill, extremely high reward build which ruins all the fun. And instead of balancing these heroes, devs decided to lazily add turrets at spawn to prevent spawncamping, as if it fixes anything lol. I don't see a future for the mode, but I would love to get proved wrong. Right now might as well just go play Deadlock instead.

Stadium is a blast. Some of the builds are pure cancer, but that's mitigated by zero pressure to swap and tons of counterplay build options. It's also much easier to climb, since you don't lose SR at first. If you take it too seriously you'll probably get frustrated, but if you just have fun with it you'll rank up in no time. The limited hero choice also makes it a lot less stressful than normal comp, since half of the more annoying heroes haven't been added yet. It was even better before they added Junkrat, Hazard, and Doomfist, but what can you do.

I am so tired.

I just find it funny they’ve dropped the 2 from the title.

It really was just an MTX update after all. Not that anyone’s surprised, but the “they replaced Overwatch with Overwatch” jokes are too easy now.

10 new heroes (5 shown and ready to release on Feb 10th, rest later in 2026) and subroles, also some lore or something. Idk, i passed out from boredom.

Something you missed too: Activision-Blizzard is officially dropping the "2" in Overwatch 2 now. "Story-driven era," yet that dropped their plans for extensive PvE content a while back. There was no need with a complete rehaul; now THEY'RE even admitting it.

I just saw that on X. That’s fucking hilarious.

All of those new heroes look like skins for existing heroes. The flame fan girl especially just looks like Kiriko's face.

Funny how they've removed the 2 from the title when they're planning on introducing what seems like McCree 2, Doomfist 2: Flame On!, Zarya Queen, Genji 2: No, YOU Need Healing, and Juno 2: Mew Mew Power.

Hopefully this brown-shaded female character has a personality to go along with her tits. She's better than Female Soldier in the looks department by miles, hopefully she isn't as cardboard as Pharah and Illari.

Also, the emphasis on story (aka the current team merrily having their Star Trek: New Generation Because Fuck The Old Generation! moment) when absolutely none of these characters are immediately related to anyone existing important is hilarious (and no, Water Zuko's sister Fire Azula doesn't count).

Jetpack Cat might be from the same space colony as Winston/Wrecking Ball because that's where all the sentient animals seem to come from, but there isn't one Overwatch, Talon, Junkertown, or even Vishkar uniform in sight.

Corrections because I looked into this:

  • Domina is from Vishkar and her being Indian explains why she doesn't look like absolute trash: she's got the same stylist as Symmetra. Sojourn, the sole African-Adjacent woman, retains her title as the ugliest brown female in the game!
  • Emre is yet another Overwatch-turned-Mercenary character because what else could veterans possibly do, right? Some more spit in Overwatch's face because this guy went to Talon. How brave, how bold. He's Reaper 76 with anime hair.
  • Mizuki-chan is part of the fucking Hashimoto gang because yes, Kiriko and her baby gang wars are truly that important! He looks like one of the Talon agents from an old Archives event. I'd say I don't know why they didn't just make him a Talon agent but I do: ner ner Talon was created by the old guard and we're the newer betterer guard ner ner.
  • Jetpack Cat is just some random stray cat Brigitte adopted and outfitted with gear, holy shit :story:

Null Sector's entire storyline has been pushed aside for WuWu Magic China School (totally not Avatar Airbenders btw) and a Girl Boss Talon Takeover, so no new robots. D.Va's MEKA squad continues to contain a single member on the roster, now less than the WuWu Magic School, all these years after launch; Jetpack Cat would have been a fun addition to D.Va's persona and her celeb/war hero/vtuber crossover thing in my opinion but I digress.

What is the purpose of the PHREAKS? Or the Deadlock Gang? How is there still only one member of the Russian Defense Force (we know the answer to that but again, I digress). What is happening within Overwatch? Are they seriously gutting Doomfist in the story?

Like, genuinely, who is meant to give a shit? No legacy characters fucking matter anymore. They were the characters people wanted stories and lore about.

Soldier and Ana confronting their guilt but rising above their woe is me / violence is bad bullshit to try and save the world (again). Hanzo and Genji reuniting and reconciling as brothers and possibly teammates as Hanzo ends his aimless quest for redemption. Widowmaker's brainwashing wearing off so she can begin her melodramatic Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes arc. Select members of Talon and Overwatch begrudgingly working together to fend of the Null Sector menace and reluctantly finding common ground despite their differences.

When I cared about the story of Overwatch, this is what I wanted. Interpersonal stories. I did not care if the omnic crisis was eternal. If there was anything to care about narratively, I figured it had to be character focused. The type of bullshit that would alter voice lines in spawn but still justify each game mode's objectives.

But now we have writers who don't know what a person is so they cannot write characters beyond them being mouth pieces for their personal values and narrow worldview. They are all so cookie cutter and detached now, it's painful. And the original characters have been watered down, even if some of them were cliched, at least they were bombastic in their personalities.

Now it's just Gayweaver: The Nice Gay, Wuyang the Nice Water Boy (he has no personality aside from water references, I kid you not), and Girl Boss: My Dad was Boss and Now I'm Gonna Be The Boss Because I'm For Modern Audiences #9294!

Fuck me.

I remember some outcry about Overwatch not having any black, female representation.

It did not get anywhere, to say the least.

I think I heard murmurs of this before OW2 (before they removed the 2) and assumed that Sojourn was their direct answer to this.

Fast forward to current day and I really wish they hadn't tried. I do not think they will ever try again.

I have a theory that they designed her with the idea of making her masculine and muscly but didn't fully commit ala Zarya so she looks weird, like some half-and-half abomination. Then they added tech which makes her look bulky and unnatural. Her outfit is lame with legs on display to try and attract sexualized comments regarding her robotic thighs (the only womanly thing about her aside from the sinched waist) but there's not a flicker of femininity to her overall and the choice to give her white dreads with a fade was certainly a choice.

Too much focus was on trying to make her SpEcIaL and a Girl Boss, so she got clunky robotics, blue cyber eyes, and Soldier's personality. It's all eerie and off-putting when mixed together. They can't just make a pretty black woman because she'd end up looking like Mercy or Widow with darker skin and who would want that? The horror!

They refuse to get rid of her ugly hair because it's a ~natural~ texture and give her some softened curls (one of the reasons I think Barista is one of if not her best skin), but everything else about her is unnatural in regards to black women, and most women in general.

I think it's one of the reasons why they struggle so much trying to make skins for Sojourn (and Venture): how do you dress this thing pretending to be female? Zarya, for all her faults and pink hair, still looks very much like a woman and I personally think she shines the most when they embrace that part of her even in smaller aspects. But she was created with some connection to reality so of course she doesn't seem as weird on the eyes as Girl Boss #1.

I watched the showcase and while it was nice to see an actual CGI short again, even with the gay girl boss taking control, I pretty much quit when I saw the pronouns for everyone's titles. At least this time they didn't include an actual tranny talking to the normies.

Then they introduce a new tank hero who is Jeet Emma Frost because they're desperate for more R34. They won't admit it to their tranny playerbase but notice how all the new people are attractive again, and not just these freaks for they/them?

One of the things that reminded me of OW's existance was randomly getting a shorts slop chick bitching that the Italian sword character was hot and not a scrimblo blimblo. Guess getting one alongside a sporty asian and a curvy pajeeta was the answer
