The Oxford Union has rejected calls to reinstate the compulsory flying of the LGBT flag every Pride month.

Critics of the order feared that it would open a “Pandora’s box” of demands for other flags to be flown.

Anita Okunde, the union president, asked the standing committee, run by students, to enact an order that would “require every union president to fly an LGBT flag clearly and visibly from the courtyard throughout June every year.”

The president would also be given the discretion to waive the requirement “in the event of the death of the Sovereign, or at such other time when public buildings fly their flags at half mast”.

The union president claimed that the requirement had been mysteriously removed from the committee’s rule book, stating it was not “a new standing order change”.

Despite the calls, seven out of four voted to reject the motion in a secret ballot on May 5.

Pride Month is traditionally celebrated in June worldwide, including in the UK.

In 2025, the occasion will take place from June 1 to June 30.

Critics of the order feared it would open a 'Pandora’s box' of demands for other flags to be flown

Passing the motion would "open the floodgates" to others who will push for the same request, according to the third elected member of the committee from Keble College.

He added that by “expressing his belief that everyone in the standing committee supports the LGBTQIA+ community regardless of the flag being on display, the motion should not be ratified”.

Okunde dismissed the idea that the move would open "Pandora's box", claiming the standing order had existed for many years.

She added she had “never heard of anybody being upset or requesting another specific flag to be flown to her knowledge”.

The committee's individual views on LGBT representation were protected through the use of a secret ballot, with opposition voices against the motion acting cautiously to avoid being cancelled.

Following the ruling, online critics forced their views with one writing that the change was “confirmation that the union is as bad as everyone thinks it is”.

Another said: “To be fair, at least it keeps the LGBTQ+ community safe by giving a warning as to where they aren’t welcome.

"If the union wants to make it clearer, it could always vote on whether to have a sign reading: ‘Bigots within beware’.”

The change in the original order has not been explained.

How long until pride month in the UK turns into "Stone the Gays?"

Edit: Shoutout to Ed Griffiths from GB News. Without their amazing investigative ability I would have never known that June had 30 days and that pride month would encapsule all 30 days. Truly riveting journalism.
GB News did what the Guardian should have done ages ago.

I guarantee that the 'Pandora's box' they're talking about is Palestinian flags. Because they know full damn well that if they mandate flying fag flags, then eventually the student union will also demand they fly Palestinian ones, and then they risk getting hit with similar punishments to what US colleges are getting.

Thanks ever so much for this clarification - I had no idea something celebrated in June took place in June.

It's another front in the Left's brewing civil war. The administrators are (mostly kosher) Establishment ShitLibs, and the student union (with its literal african president) is made up of the Third-World Progs, which ShitLibs imported as a weapon against Huwite Christian Male Chuds.

But the Progs are too impulsive & low IQ to stick with the script, and have deemed Jews as "oppressors", so just like in the stories, the Golems are turning on their masters. I would advise against being lured into picking a side (BoomerCons who want to deploy the National Guard on campus Palestinians), as all this does is solve the Establishment Left's problems while both sides unite against you.

Let them fight.

Instead of 'Let It Go' how's about...

'Stone the Gays
Stone the Gays
We shall end their PRIDE Parades
Stone the Gays
It's the craze
We've got the queers in disarray
One way trips
From skyscrapers
It's all the rage
And the Cops won't stop us anyway!'

Total Pride Month Death

The alphabet monsters don't deserve a whole fucking month! It's disgusting. I'm so fucking sick of them!

It's likely going to be a very long time until society is steered toward the kind of specific social conditions that actually celebrate homosexuality.

Here's a tip: if you want to stretch this out next time, don't dress up like dildo demons and demand access to children.
It took the concentrated might of the biggest media cabal composed of the biggest megaconglomerates in the history of mankind put toogether for several decades and they still failed to convince more than 50% of the population in only a handful of countries. Never give up.
