Culture PA: Teachers Resigning After Violent Assault by Students

I don't think it's corporal punishment (which I think is barbaric). There are nations that have banned it in schools* that don't have the issues with education USA schools have.


What the hell do they use that would do that?

*(The USA as a whole has not. It varies by state.)
A cane. A hard enough wack from one of those would be enough to leave a pretty nasty bruise. From what I got told at the boys school they had two: one bamboo and one bamboo wrapped in leather. Only the rector and house masters could actually lash you but any teacher could order the punishment.
 
How common is violence by students against teachers? Usually we hear of abuse the other way around.

South Africa and Zimbabwe.
IIRC, Kenya used to allow it, but it got so bad (kids getting permanently injured or even killed) that they recently banned it.

Interesting tidbit: Poland was the first to ban corporal punishment in schools in 1783.
