Palworld - Everything you have ever wanted from a Pokemon game

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I second this. There's a lot that needs to be added to really make base building something else, especially when it comes to decorations and shit. It's a pain in the ass to make a truly secure base unless you go with a perfect square or rectangle, and you usually have to sacrifice space to do so since you only got squares to work with. There's also only so many times I can add bookcases, shelves, barrels and ivy to add detail to a base before everything starts looking samey. I have a big ass 5 story tower on my main save but I've stopped furnishing it after the 2nd floor because of the limited amount of decorations.
On a 3x3 I've essentially built the perfect first floor. The antique set is actually really nice. Plus the Piano as well. One of the things missing is an ability to sit in those comfy chairs.

I like the decorations that exist, but I definitely need more for my level of base autism.

You can sit in the chairs, but it's clunky as hell right now and definitely needs a "press x to sit" implementation. You got to space it far enough away from any table to be able position your character as in front of the chair as possible, angle the camera, aim so your back faces the seat, then use the "sit in chair" emote. You sadly clip through most of them if you don't get it just right.

So is it fun?

I recently (1 hour ago) finished* it. I don't remember the last time I spent ~25% of my time playing a game over the course of a month. And the funniest part? I still want to do more. I want to breed the perfect version of my favorite Pal (Ferocious, Musclehead, Swift, Legend). I want to get all legendary items. I actually want to start a new game with upped difficulty (lower drops, capture rate etc.) because I'm not a clueless retard anymore. It's honestly incredible how Palworld manages to tick basically every box I can think of when it comes to what I want from a video game.

*beat Victor with plenty of time to spare, beat every overland boss and captured every Pal except for Frostallion Nox, which I hear comes from an egg combo, so it's breeding only. Gotta experiment some more.
Now that I look at achievement stats, over 7% of players got to the end. Isn't that pretty high for... basically any game, actually?

I still can't beat Shadowbeak (Is that Victor?) But I noticed when I last tried, only my second real attempt, that I could easily do it if I leveraged riding Pals more, but I'm tempted to just get more Jetragons just to have an excuse to keep playing.

Yeah, that's him. I don't understand why he's considered to be difficult, I fought at a massive disadvantage and still beat him with plenty of time to spare despite all the downtime generated by dodging these bullshit sphere attacks. The plant bitch was harder simply because she had tons of homing attacks, seed mine and that poison powder explosion (btw, the bubbles can be shot down).

I blasted the plant girl somewhere in the mid 30's I think. Definitely before I started working on anything considered end game. Really the only problem from Victor is that he's a bullet sponge. I did around half damage in 7 minutes but did get him to twenty or thirty thousand left by the end, so I have the DPS for it. Just need to deploy it better.

The plant boss was cool. They really changed the game for me. I figured out this game really had the potential to be a GOTY eventually when I was taking potshots at her while flying on my Vanwyrm. I really hadn't experienced combat like that before.

Problem is these moves are kind of shit. In general all those long cooldown (50s and up), high damage attacks only work for bosses due to their bloated health and buffed damage. My Jetdragon was doing literal single digit damage to the boss Jetdragon, and in turn the boss Jetdragon had to merely sneeze to take 15% of its hp away.
Lovander was doing much better despite having half his health. Probably closer to 30% if we take away the soul buffs.

It's the opposite for me, I highly disliked not being able to dodge so I kept the Pal in remote mode almost constantly. One thing I'd like to see added is currently active Pals dodging when you do. They already mirror your jumps, so it only feels natural to expand it because if I'm being perfectly honest, avoiding attacks by recalling is lame and feels cheap, especially if the attack has a chargeup time. Recall during that and you can get in 5 seconds of uninterrupted fire while the boss is shooting the ceiling.

How unusual. I had some issues with most of the bosses, but nothing that required more than three retries tops.

Gryphon dude and his black bird is just such a bullet sponge. When I first challenged him, I barely made any dents to the point I conceded early and just respawned. Second attempt faired marginally better, but my damage output would not have been enough to down the boss in good time.

Right now I am focusing in trying to level my character the last three levels and boosting my damage modifier in hopes that'll do the trick. Been trying to breed good pals, but looking at all the charts and trying to see if any of my pairs have the mons I want is a headache and a half. Wish the breeding system would spot mons with good potential for breeding and allow me to sort those into a separate box. Alas, such a system does not exist, so I am just here looking at my Steam web browser and the guides trying to get the good shit.

On that note however, any updates on good mods out there? It's been long enough that something decent should have popped up by now. I know there are already a few mentions of some goodies in the past, but I'd like to know if any new ones have popped up, hopefully stable ones that won't get wreaked too hard by future updates. Looking at you Bethesda. Haven't modded your game in the past several years, but good lord I do not want to share that fate for the poor modders of Skyrim.

(Bonus: Any good mod manager would also be appreciated, specifically of the ones that work with Linux.)

Also, would this thread be opposed to me sharing some fan art I found? Been sitting on a couple of good ones, but I figured the thread might not be receptive to it.

I do really like the feeling of recalling your Pal to help them avoid an attack only to immediately send them out again. Especially when you’re in the midst of dodging yourself.

I just got around to finishing the game a few days ago, at least up to the point I wanted to. Minus a few Pals I haven’t caught yet in the deck, I’ve pretty much done everything I wanted to do. Maxed out my team and breed really OP pals, which involved maxing out their souls and condensing them to max level (which wasn’t a fun grind, but worth it because my brain seeing number go up make my mind go brrr), also ended up getting all the legendary schematics, opening up the entire map, beating all the bosses etc.

Don’t think I’ve played a game in a long time that’s held my attention for that long, I already have like a 100ish hours or so into it and I’m kinda just waiting for the game to get updated before I do anymore; the Xbox version is a bit annoying to play due to clipping issues with the ground and crashes making dungeons basically unplayable.

I can legitimately see this as a game I play long term, it’s fun, and once you get the mechanics down and understand how it works it becomes really addicting to play. Sometimes playing it and losing track of time because of how fun it is. I’m looking forward to whatever they add in the future.

It's a given that updates will kill mods. You mention Skyrim, and that's mostly just patches. Palworld isn't even feature complete yet.

As for mods, I was browsing them today. I'm mostly interested in player cosmetic mods. During the game's peak, people were showing screenshots of all sorts of things. I know the pokemon mods were pulled pretty much instantly (but I did see a Lucario/Anubis replacer), but the only meme mod I saw was the Loona player character mod. Most of the rest has been cheat mods.

We're at the stage of modding right now where people are still reverse engineering how the game works, graphical stuff is pretty easy by comparison.

Tried that with a dozen Zapdos. Nothing really dropped. Literally dropped btw. The butchered items fall from the sky.
I gave it a few shots, nothing that would indicate that it can drop... The butcher animation is hilarious though. The guys who made this game knew what they were doing.

Skyrim's patches are feared because they always break the script extender, to the point where its crew is given extra time in advance so they can prepare accordingly. Every update has its own DLL that works only with that particular version of the game. It has no reverse or forward compatibility. And when SKSE gets updated, all the mods that rely on it have to be updated as well, so it becomes a splintered mess. It's not uncommon to see a mod page that has like 20 different versions, and some of them become abandoned because of that - authors simply grew tired of fixing everything only to have to do it all over again literally a day later.
Palworld's mods are safe at the moment, simply because they either affect/replace stuff that isn't touched by the updates (crosshairs, object models etc.), or create something new from the resources that are already available (photo mode which simply gives an UI to features already present in UE5), filling in modding "gaps", which is why so many mod pages specifically warn about PAK files conflicting with each other.

In other news, Paladius x Lovander produced large common eggs. Don't know what's inside yet, but I might be on track for the perfect lizard specimen.
