I hope the April fools joke is that it's actually real and the game gets a release date like... a few weeks to a month from now. That'd be funny.
Is this a final rejection?, not really because they can apeal like the tweet says and you know... they can just reapply for the patent and get it approved. Its also not like the last patent rejection seemed to mean anything yet.

A lot of Pals really do feel like they were meant to evolve initially. A Swee should be able to become a Sweepa, Foxspark should evolve to Wixen, ect.
I think using the cards is cooler as a capture mechanic. My two favorite game series on the GCN used cards as a mechanic to store objects for later combat. One of them even let you capture creatures with them.
