I dunno, I think it's a 'parent' thing.. At least, my folks always told me that no matter what I did or who I did it with, as long as I wasn't harming myself or anyone else they'd love me just the same. So I think it's good that they're supporting him, even if I don't necessarily agree with anything he, um.. practices.
As much as a disgusting deviant he is, it still is awful to see someone go through something like this. It's pretty appalling to cheer for someone you dislike getting a life threatening disease. The video of him in the hospital was striking.

There you are, sitting at a hospital bed. In it is your twenty-something son. In a few months he could be dead.
