If they ported CRANK it would push the novelty factor to a maybe-buy. Too bad that screen would be trash for fishing games.

So apparently the crank doesn't charge the battery like I figured it would. It's a potentiometer input. That's dumb.

There's also an accelerometer built in. Like, motion controls. Motion controls on that thing, somehow. I guess for the inevitable fishing games that'll work in tandem with the crank, and be the one sensible use for it.

I've been keeping an eye on this since I'm a fan of most of Panic's software (I bought a license to Audion back when Napster was a thing and iTunes was not!) and because it looks like it'd be a fun little thing to develop for. While I appreciate it whenever someone takes risks with new video game hardware rather than just slapping Android or Linux on a cheap x86 board and shipping it (which is why the Intellivision Amico seems far more interesting than the Atari VCS IMO), I do feel that the price is out of line for the hardware and the game subscription service or whatever is confusing, and they've blown past their initial deadlines for it - they first announced this back in early 2019.

That said, just today, they released their first video update. I haven't given it a watch yet but I will some time today.

You also post in the Apple thread and are the most enthusiastic Apple user on the entire forums, so that explains exactly what kind of person is attracted to this retarded garbage.

I can smell the soy from the hipsters in this video. If you want to get drunk while watching this, play a drinking game and take a shot every time you hear a feminine lisp or see a pedo mustache.

Must be a @LegoTugboat sock

I mean, the Playdate looks fun to mess around with, but not for a price as much as a Nintendo Switch Lite, which is $20 more than this thing.

I doubt I'm the most enthusiastic, but even if true, so what? If you've watched that thread so closely you'd have seen that I still have plenty of criticism for Apple when they do dumb things, as inclined as I am to like their products. And I'll be the same towards Panic as well.

Yeah, that bit about reaching out towards MARGINALIZED DEVELOPERS (whatever that means) was kinda annoying. And this is a game machine; why did they waste all that time pitching that goofy speaker/music player attachment before the parts pitching the games, which were actually interesting? That part should have been the "one more thing" at the end. And I'm still not on board with the game "seasons" idea.

But I guess one good thing you could say about this thing is it doesn't look like they're focus-testing it.

Panic just sent a message out on their list. Pre-orders will start next week, Thursday, July 29.

Sorry, there's no email field I can type "sage" into.

This is neither and only hipsters who say they love EarthBound but never played it are interested in this.
Now that's going too far. Yeah this console is trash but it doesn't need to be associated with one of the worst game fandoms in existence.

This thing has been a background laughingstock on other forums for a while although the Intellivision Amico is currently stealing its cow thunder.

Here's something amusing that gets brought up a lot to dunk on it: a hardware guy saw the initial prototype and manufactured his own take on the idea in 2019 when it was first announced. It's on github too so you can actually build one if you're inclined.
