Just played ck3 and it is very disappointing they dumb the game down so fucking much. Vassal no longer feel important which I my opinion makes the role-playing worse because you can literally ignore them. Combat been dumb down to hell and back. The way suceession works in this game is stupid and feels like artificial difficulty. They are going to make the game more challenging by adding a npc that's has the ability to paint the map instead of fixing Vassal mangement or making warfare more interesting. It's a real shams because I think ck3 has potential to actually be a proper successor to 2.

Related to the above, despite being the machine/synth expansion, the crisis is most easily beaten by calling up daddy Shroud and paying some space crack to bail you out. Psionic bias strikes again!
Eeeeeh, debatable. I have a soft spot for psionics, but if you do invoke the animator of clay to assist you with cetana, you get a dogshit reward.

Killing cetana the normal way gives you her heart as a relic, its triumph spawns 50 pops on the spot and its passive makes planetary ascension basically free.

Using the shroud gives you her titan instead which is not bad, yeah its powerful, but instantly maxing out and fully colonizing an entire planet every 10 years is arguably way way way WAY more powerful.

Her titan has like 1 million fleetpower, using the heart you can just make a new fortress world and get enough naval capacity to surpass that ten times over every 10 years.

Not that it really matters anyway, cetana is horribly balanced, on any difficulty above x1 her main system is completely impregnable even if you do use psionics to stun her ship. Last time I tried on x4 I think each one of her 8 starbases had like 100 million fleetpower.

Does anyone know Morse Code?
According to the Youtube comments it says "What we observe is not nature itself but nature exposed to our method of questioning", a quote by Wermer Heisenberg, a key figure in Germany's attempts to build a Atomic Bomb. (The Device seen at the end can be assumed to be a Heisenberg Device, basically a hypothetical successful German Atom bomb.) The Video itself shows off the Prussian coat of arms on the walls too alongside the giant red banners, which is pretty clearly pointing to something regarding Germany. I'm guessing a Germany Rework.

Maybe it's actually a nuke rework that is the surprise. A german rework has been speculated for a while to have the tree take into account all the features that were added since it was last touched, but the nukes themselves have been mostly the same since the game launched.

The Research in the game really does not properly convey how much of a goddamn trial getting a nuke is. Pretty much every nation can get Nukes by 1948, and all the Majors can do it by 1945 if they bother to do it and have dozens of bombs by the dawn of 1946. This is absurd to a point that strains the game and causes balance issues as the devices cannot be allowed to simulate their immense power and effects since it would fuck the meta to just make everyone rush nukes and spam them, turning a 1940's war game into a 1960's M.A.D. one.

As a reminder the US spent the equivalent of its small arms production budget for the whole war, including any lend-lease, on the Manhattan project.

On Tuesday Johan published changes made thanks to feedback.
While not mentioned in screenshots, they've also split the guns good into firearms and cannons and added a Dhimmi estate which will contain "all social classes of another religion group."

Yes, it is now diplomatic capacities, and not diplomatic relation slots.

Yes, this is a new pop-type that is present in many places around the world..

Which meant that another estate has been added to the game..

Tinto Maps #1 changes:

Diplomatic Capacity makes a lot more sense than flat Diplo Slots when you start thinking about it. A Royal Marriage between Austria and Spain shouldn't be as "important" as one between France and Lorraine for example. Guaranteeing the independence of some small HRE duchy shouldn't be as big a investment of diplomacy as a alliance between England and Portugal.

Johan stop getting my hopes up. I'm trying to be a cynical ex-Paradox fag here.

It could also be a WunderWaffe themed DLC.

It's so ogre

Tinto Talks #15

The stuff about the marriages being more in depth and affecting unions better, including local nobles and inheritance laws, do play into the "progression from feudalism to absolutism to nationalism" timeline the game is going for though.
Jesus, this game isn't EUV, its a paradox's greatest hits album.

Ohhh, what could it be next for hoi4?
The reaction to this, particularly on Reddit, is not encouraging. People calling for a new "super weapon designer"... as if we haven't spent the past three years figuring out the designers are an exercise in autistic min-maxing only.

Gameplay worth $30 = +10% nuke damage.

How does Victoria III represent the Congo Free State?

The most interesting aspect of it IRL (and in PDM) is that it was essentially a privately owned independent nation, created by diplomatic conference, that just happened to be in personal union with Belgium.

As I recall PDM, in keeping with good design (also like MEIOU and Taxes), had a generic version where a Secondary Power could potentially get an opportunity to petition for this and the Great Powers had some say, so it could be the Sicilian Congo, Polish Congo, Norwegian Congo etc.

It doesn't.

When colonizing Africa you can setup vassals with specific exploitation methods. There is a brutal method that has extremely high mortality. You can also control the territory yourself directly and as Belgium get access to a special corporation that gives extremely high mortality for a high rubber production boost.

There is no special events for rewarding the Congo State and dividing Africa.

The only use I could see for for that is if you have to research higher yields for your nukes, but that's it. I think a more in-depth "Super weapon" system could be really cool, but tacking on a designer is peak reddit moment.

Hot take but base game hoi4 isn't very fun compared to other paradox games. I dont like the format of 1 long war lasting the majority of the game with some buildup before hand. The only hoi4 mod I really like is Old world blues because it breaks gameplay down into a bunch of smaller wars for most nations. I prefer the paradox other games because they are more of a sandbox experience.

I think some of the older vanilla HOI4 was pretty good as a sandbox experience. It was all pretty abstract and felt more like a board game, but they lost some of that with time as they got more complex while chasing trends that they were left in the dust on by mods such as OWB like you mentioned. Personally prefer Europa Universalis myself, pretty much agree with most of what you said. That one's infinitely repayable, while vinalla HOI4 right now is all over the place.
