Lots of things, Magna Mundi was big back in the day it was meant to be the real EU4. It's a real rabbit hole, Ubik was always a bit highly strung but it all went off the deep end quite rapidly. Long story short Pdox used to partner with mod teams a lot at the time, when they'd licence out the rights of the game engine to "proven track record" devs and publish whatever it was they made.

For the Glory (EU 2 but better), Darkest Hour (HOI2 but better) were a couple of success stories, then came Magna Mundi (not MEIOU I had a brainhole).
TL;DR schizophrenic Mortuguese modder tries to claim ownership of the Clausewitz engine, crashes the licensing program with no survivors, and ends up in the looney bin, in the process giving paradox such terrible PTSD they will never ever licence out anything ever again.

One of the stranger PDXisms is the use of foreign names for things that have perfectly good names in English. The games also suffer more general ESL writing, for example Victoria 3 refers to countries with "they" pronouns, instead of "it" like normal or "she" like a nice old-fashioned use. I wonder if there will be EU5 mods to localize it for English?

I'm a native English speaker and this doesn't really bother me. Countries are groups of people. I need to see a screenshot of what you are talking about. I don't see anything wrong with like "Their opinion of us is..."

I would much prefer if the names changed based on the country YOU are playing rather than who controls the province. So, on your screen, it's called one thing, to the country that controls it it's another. Observers and countries too far away to care can use the current system of favoring the controller.

Localized names annoy me to no end.
WHERE'S DEUTSCHLAND, YOU FUCKERS?!

Just use the english version. I dont give a flying fuck what what its called if i cant read the word.

Not really what I mean. "France" for example is called that or an equivalent of it in literally every language.

Germany has 5 or 6. All of them but the Slavic one are pretty easy to anglicize.

In American English which the game generally follows, and historically British English also, singular nouns take the singular. It doesn't matter that it's referring to a group of people, the group is singular.

The plural can work if you can imply the object, like "They [the Germans] have declared war on us" is understandable. But "Germany have declared war on us" is just silly.

Changing country names based on perspective sounds fun only if you don't think about it too much. It could function for a very limited number of languages that English-speakers can normally parse, like French. But Chinese or Russian or whatever makes everything illegible unless you happen to speak those languages, even if it uses the Latin alphabet.

Funny thing is we call the country Germania but the people are usually called Nemti, like the polish Niemcy.
Thats only for the people theres no equivelent for the country like Nemtia unless you're just making a joke.

Also since whe are localizing names how about getting rid of Walachia ? Majority of Romanians have never even heard of it.

It is annoying how they localize some names but not others. Feels like its mostly to do with modern politics instead of anything objective.

Its ironic that the English call the Deutsche Germans, and the Nederlanders Dutch.

Nemti is derived from the proto-slavic word *němьcьu or the mute ones so it's basically a fossilized slur

Sure is funny how so many people in Europe still nurse a grudge against them.

Not that they don't have good reasons since the German hasn't fundamentally changed from what they were a couple thousand years ago, but still...
