Path of Exile

Question: are essences useless? controlling the first prefix isn't good no matter how i look at it.
also i'm slightly confused of what catalysts do, i know that they used to increase quality of rings and amulets to 20 but why theres a ton of them

Man, I despise how married to the current trading system GGG is. "Just buy your upgrade, dude" feels pretty unsatisfying as it is, but the clunkiness of the mechanics makes it a drag.

Just lemme set a price and have shit be automated. I've seen people defend it by talking about the social side of the game, but I've literally never had any non-sales interaction during these moments.

I’ve finally made it to endgame and my build has been exposed as a bit of a glass cannon.
I went all in on evasion (82% w/ wind dancer), no armour or energy shield.
I do still have a lot of trash gear from campaign and barely any elemental resistance, but I feel it’s time once again to figure out a respec.

Does anyone know a good place for 3rd ascendency drops?
I failed my first attempt.

havent played poe 2 yet, but assuming its the same thing as in poe1, of course not. before meta crafting they were the most important first step for almost anything crafted and they still see use in poe1 as bloated as the systems have become.

Its a strictly better chaos orb at worst and can be step 1 in a 7-step perfect item craft

I'm becoming increasingly intolerant of one-shot deaths the further I get into these maps. Dropping dead after cruising through an entire map is irritating, but having zero feedback on what actually killed me is shite.

1.4k HP, with 2k ES and maxed resistances should offer me a bit more time to react than a few frames worth of animation.

The endgame just feels schizophrenic at the moment. I finally understand what people were complaining about earlier in the thread; they want the Dark Souls dodge and weave pace, but still have combat zip around at an ARPG's speed. I might hit up the first game for a while, seeing my experience bar drop to 0 so often is becoming rather demoralising.

Some endgame map-mob combinations are making me seethe.
Mire map plus packs of hedgehogs = offscreen instant stagger, can't move, getting instagibbed, lost 30 minutes of progress.
Very mean game.

While Elon plays like someone with at most 20h spent in the game and is clueless about about fairly basic things any PoE 1 or 2 players would know.
I saw some of the footage of him gaming and reddit post or not. Yeah, he definitely had someone boost that account he plays like an absolute fucktard.
-opens inventory and picks up one item at a tine individually mouse dragging it over to the inventory.
-Ignoring high value currency drops.
-Calling gear bad because of the level when it has near perfect rolls.
-not using mana potions and basic attacking npcs without realizing it.
Holy shit it was bad.
I refuse to believe anyone in the upper echelon can get that far in hardcore playing like that.

After playing a few hundred hours of Grim Dawn. Going to give POE1 a shot. I usually enjoy melee brawler builds which seems to be lacking for POE? I found this build to go off of, seems up my alley. Does anybody have other recommendations for sites to search for builds?

I got my 3rd ascendency!
The scorpion boss was a nail biter finish, what a fun fight.
I picked up Tailwind for my ranger, which puts my evasion at 89% when fully active with 37.7% movement speed.
There’s a skill node I want to try that lowers evasion but let’s you evade AoE attacks, it should drop to ~70%, but might not be worth it until I get an energy shield build online so I can tank a little more.

The node is really good if you have a high numeric value of evasion, even let's you evade boss aoe shit. On my non energy shield ranger I'm using it, and at level 80 with the node I have around 72% evasion rating. Gear is mid to decent.
And gz on the ascension!

I played PoE quite a bit albeit quite casually, on and off since Bestiary league. I usually found a build I like online for the class I want to play, played through the story, and did a couple maps and by that point I was bored and quit. Sometimes I get burnt out just doing the story, even when you're just running through everything, doing the side quests you need to do for your build, and going through the ascension trials. It's so involved, by the time I actually got to maps I've used up any and all willpower to continue playing. If I get my build to a somewhat finished state, get an opportunity to mess around with it, and experience the new League, that's all I really need. I never get that far into the Atlas because I know there really isn't much else other than more of the same, and grinding all the bullshit I need to minmax. (SSF btw)

I don't know if I really see myself playing anymore unless there's something that actually makes it worth it. I want to do the endgame content, but I always hit the same wall where the amount of effort they expect me to put in, exceeds my capacity to care about the game. Compounded by the fact that as time goes on, it seems like the kinds of builds I find enjoyable become less and less viable, or maybe the inverse that all the best builds are just unfun to me. I have held the belief PoE was one of those games where everything is designed for the hardcore fanbase that constantly needs a new insurmountable obstacle to overcome by minmaxing the mechanics. Which punishes people that are into it, but not as sweaty about it. I hit the same problem playing Oldschool Runescape.

That being said, Is PoE 2 worth the $30? Especially to someone like me that has experienced PoE pretty thoroughly, and gotten to maps with every class except Scion. I like the game enough to get into it, but never enough to actually do the endgame content, and as it stands I don't really see myself playing it again. I'm interested, but not enough to pay to play what amounts to the same thing for me, but with better graphics.

No, unless you want to grind and endgame treadmill, there's no reason to pay $30 right now. Wait until it's free in 6-12 months (and also there'll be more build choices and content), and then you can play the campaign a couple times.

To me, it's fun and I don't regret paying (hell I've put in like 120 hours), but the builds are SO constricted right now and there's a lot of content that is just a slog. That said, all the pieces are there to make it a fucking awesome game, if they make the right decisions in EA. Yeah, yeah, rainbow the shit out of me.

That's the big reason why I was on the fence. I didn't know if it was just paying to get EA for a game that was going to be free when it releases*.
*(See also: enough time has passed that Early Access can no longer be used as a cop-out)

As much as the game tried to tell you that you dont need to send any money on it i do think that you still need buy some tabs just to function in the endgame
I cant imagine stacking this shit the way it makes scene without them and i think trading is pretty much impossible without them
And take my advice do not sell waystones at 1 regal price, you will be swarmed constantly to the point where it is impossible to keep track of everyone. If the stone is t6 or higher just put the price at 2, if its higher then 11 at 3, 13 and 14 can go for 5 or so. This will save you a bunch of headache.

Patch 0.1.1, coming later this week.

The upcoming patch, Path of Exile 2 0.1.1, aims to address various player concerns without requiring a new league or fresh economy. Many other larger, more “meta-shifting” changes are planned for a future league. 2. Endgame Map Improvements

Monster/Chest Balancing:

A balance pass has been done on monster density, chests, Magic/Rare monsters, Essences, Strongboxes, and Precursor Artifacts. Maps should now feel more rewarding. New Tower Maps: Four new tower maps (Alpine Ridge, Sinking Spire, Bluff, and Mesa) have been added to increase variety, alongside a rework to the existing Lost Towers map. Boss Spawn Rate: Bosses were intended to appear in one out of four maps, but some maps couldn’t spawn bosses correctly. This has been adjusted so you’ll see bosses at the intended frequency. A new Tablet item will let you add bosses to maps. Strongbox Improvements: Boxes spawn monsters faster, have less intrusive fog effects, and feature updated mod timings and visuals.

Visibility and Clutter

Visual clutter in some maps has been reduced so ground effects (like telegraphed AoEs) are easier to see. Elemental explosion effects stick around longer before detonating, making them more noticeable and avoidable. Volatile Plants have also been made clearer. Technical improvements like better Atlas zoom and faster load times for the World Map/Atlas panel. Biomes for each map are now displayed on hover.

Other Content Updates

Delirium: A bug was fixed that prevented Delirium monsters from spawning after the initial wave. Simulacrum drop rate has been increased by 20%. Ritual: Omens appear 60% more often in the tribute window. Expedition: Shop item rarity has been improved, with more changes coming later.

Pinnacle Bosses and Citadels

Citadels now appear closer to the Atlas center and are visible from farther away on the fog of war, making them easier to find. Respawns on Arbiter of Ash: Up to six respawn attempts are granted for the person who used the keys. Higher difficulties reduce the number of attempts. The system is planned to extend to other pinnacle encounters. A balance pass on the Faradun Citadel boss makes it more in line with other bosses.

Unique and Rare Item Adjustments

Many unique items (including lower-level ones) have been buffed so they feel better when found early and can still be build-enabling later. Rare item modifiers have been re-weighted to reduce the chance of “bad” rolls. High-tier items will no longer “cull” the highest tier of certain modifiers (e.g., T5 attack speed on bows, T5 life on rings). Runes and other socketables can now be overwritten with another socketable.

Monster/Boss Balance

Widespread adjustments to monsters/bosses that were disproportionately deadly or frustrating. Examples: Silverfist Commander’s roll does less damage. Plaguebearers’ Detonate Dead cannot happen from off-screen and has clearer telegraphs. Forsaken Miners throw fewer grenades, with improved visuals and less damage. Lost Men Zealots can no longer meteor from off-screen.

Console Item Filters

A system similar to Path of Exile 1 is being enabled so console players can finally subscribe to web-based item filters. Initially, this will be managed on the PoE1 website and later integrated into the PoE2 site for a better user experience.

Additional Small Fixes/Improvements

Armor and Scavenged Plating have been buffed. Charms now display the number of uses left and show an effect upon triggering. Background music issues (like Una’s music in town) have been fixed. Numerous bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements round out the patch.

Key Takeaways:

This patch is focused on quick fixes—such as map rewards, early/mid-boss accessibility, and item power—that don’t require a new league reset. Significant, more disruptive changes to gameplay and balance will follow in a future league alongside a fresh economy. Player feedback is guiding these immediate quality-of-life tweaks, and the developers plan to keep refining the endgame experience and core systems.

Anyone had any real success with a Mercenary that doesn't use grenades? I love the concept, but they're so bloody clumsy to use on console. I feel like half detonate too slowly for my needs, and the other half are dependent on Explosive Shot which keeps getting stuck in a reload cycle.

I just want to hose everyone down with a not-machine gun,
