Path of Exile

My only vivid memory from when I used to play PoE, many years ago, was getting kicked from a clan/guild for saying trannies are mentally ill homosexuals.

I will probably give PoE2 a try, as I enjoy the autistic aspect of builds.

How did you end up spending $480 on PoE?

I've been playing on and off since the game went into beta. Not every new season is a winner, but I at least like to dip my toes in, even if I don't end up riding out the full season. Most of the money spent has went towards cosmetics, which are honestly relatively expensive on a per-piece basis. Considering I've been playing for a little over a decade and still enjoy coming back to it, I don't think an average $48 a year on a game I like is that bad. The stuff I consider "essential" like organized tabs for currencies was probably the cheaper part of it. Most of that money was spent in the first five years accumulating skill effects and equipment skins. I pretty much have anything I could want for the builds that I enjoy playing at this point. I probably could have gone without some of the more novel stuff (currency pickup tracker, character pedometer, painting ring, elite execution animations, legendary collection tabs). With the state of the modern gaming industry, I don't spend money on games like I used to, and anything I spend in PoE now is more of a slow trickle. PoE2 is one of the few games I've been genuinely looking forward to.

I'm not knocking you I'm just curious what was worth buying over the length of the game's life time. I was little surprised that bar for entry for the PoE2 EA was so high and how many people have spent that kind of money on PoE.

People who have played World of Warcraft since it's release paying the least amount possible have given Blizzard over 2000 dollars.

I think a lot of people who've put that kind of money in have done so through the supporter packs. They're set up to where you can buy in at a base level and "upgrade" to the higher tiers by paying the difference to the next tier. You can spend $480 on a max tier support pack alone if you buy it outright if you were so inclined. I could never justify dropping that kind of money all at once on video game content *. As far as the actual value of it goes, you get the equivalent in points if you were to purchase points by themselves, and physical goods (t-shirts, art books, soundtracks, etc) help sweeten the deal, so you at least get something tangible for your money.

As far as stuff you get in-game being "worth" the money, it really just comes down to preference. Unfortunately most of the equipment you get up until late game looks like it was dragged out of a dumpster, so your character looks like a homeless person for most of your playtime unless you cover it up with skins, which can range from a few dollars to upwards of 30 for a single piece. Some PoE players will say that stash and currency tabs aren't "required", but that take kind of becomes disingenuous if you intend to play the game beyond a very casual manner. While I enjoy the options that different currencies and systems provide, I'd be lying if I said it hasn't reached a bloated state. That being said, you could spend a fraction of what Diablo 4 costs and be completely set for convenience and quality of life for your entire playtime. The cosmetics themselves are the real money makers for GGG.

*EDIT: I caved and decided to take care of some early Christmas shopping for the gaming buddies. They get access keys, I get my art book, clothes, cosmetics for two games, and mostly likely all the points I'll ever need again. What good is a work bonus if you don't spend it?

Behold the Liberator of Wraeclast kiwi. Yes, he does the kiwi warcry. @Back me up! I suppose this is how one ends up spending $480 on Path of Exile.

I have a couple POE2 keys I can give out, I'll raffle them in a couple days if people DM me with their playtime or a leveled toon . I guess you don't -need- to send playtime I just prefer to give them to people that put some time into POE1

According to the art book, duelist isn't a playable class anymore. He is replaced by the gladiator who looks slightly different. The returning classes look like their PoE1 counterpart. Is the duelist going to be the 'canonical' exile who killed kitava and gets inevitably fucked up by the atlas?

Also I'm giving out keys for PoE2 tomorrow, so if you want in the raffle DM me by then.

Only a week away now. I've actually noticed advertisement online and people at starting to pique interest. The global chat in-game has been chock full of people who decided to try the game after seeing the various developer videos that have been released. Lot of helpful players teaching the newbies the cryptic bullshit of PoE. As per usual, some people bounce off how overwhelming it is at first, but the people who like it, really fucking like it.

I got curious and checked the Steam charts, and it's had some nice steady bumps over the last few months. I was actually kind of shocked at how consistent the playerbase of the game has been. Keep in mind, Steam charts doesn't include people playing on console or on the original client. I can't say I've seen a game maintain consistent of a playerbase like that for a decade. Once actual player footage of PoE2 hits the internet and people like Asmongold autistically gush over it to a sizable audience, the game is going to blow the fuck up. I'm sure it'll follow the first game in the sense that some people are going to bounce off of it, but PoE2 definitely streamlines a lot of what made the first so rough around the edges.

I like what I have seen in the trailers so far since a lot of my gripes with the original game, namely gem slots/links/colors being tied to your gear, have been fixed in one way or another. I am most interested in playing the mercenary and using crossbows (the movement and types of ammo/shots looks super cool)
I've played PoE on and off since the open beta until after the release of act 10, I thought the character customization was cool but i could never get far into maps since I found the progression of them and gearing to be very tedious. Hoping theh make running maps less of a pain in the ass.

I sent out keys. Sorry if you weren't drawn to receive one :(
Kinda wish I tried the current league earlier, it's pretty good. Obvious now that they used it to test out their gold and currency exchange for PoE2. I'm trying to get cyclone to work but it feels tricky; normally I just go totems. While playing I'm watching a lot of interviews with the PoE2 director and he seems really excited about all of this. It gives me vibes that it's just people who love games making games they love. No politics, no DEI, no nonsense, just a fun time making and playing a game you enjoy. Tencent looming over the company still makes me uneasy, but they would have done something to fuck it all up by now if they wanted to, maybe.

I think Tencent tacks on/has GGG tack on a bunch of gacha / p2w junk for Asian markets while letting GGG publish the game they actually want to make in the West.

So it will be incredibly fucked up, but only if you're in China, and if Tencent is suitably savvy they'll figure they would alienate the (Western) audience PoE has cultivated if they try putting Chinese p2w garbage in the Western edition.

PoE 2 looks really interesting, but it also seems like a massive time-sink that would suck up all of my free time.

So what class are you guys most interested in? Really looking forward to the Mercenary since I've always loved getting shotguns/rifles in fantasy type games. Grim Dawn was able to make it fun and PoE 2 looks to have evolved the gameplay even further.

Poe2 looks really good but I don't get why it still doesn't have auction house. Last time I tried trade league I learnt that I had to use a site which is just roundabout auction house. Find an item, copy a ready to paste message, pm a player with said message, wait for response and find out the seller is in the middle of mapping and I can kiss him in the ass or they are straight up afk. What the fuck is that about? Is this a way to get around their china masters which hate auction houses or maybe it's leagcy of "diablo 3 bad" so we have to do those mental gymnastics to explain how current system is not an auction house because it's annoying to use?

Monk probably but I am not sure if I should give any more money to ggg. That kiwi sure is tempting though...
