No, it's not new, it's a callback to old stuff in issues 4 and 5. He added Pretty Cure back during his Game Place/weeb/Megan phase, along with most of the other anime influences.

Autism. Not even kidding, the answer is probably because Sonichu is so ingrained into his consciousness that h3 can't bear to change it to a Rosechu. Autistics tend to dislike change (remember the blue arms thing?).

The other possibility is that Chris isn't really as commited to this trans thing as he acts. Again it's hard to tell with Chris but he seems to empathize more with his cartoon characters than real living beings, to the point where being forced to kill one by the trolls devastated him. It's quite possible he views changing his cartoon avatar as just wrong, but with Chris, who knows...

Pretty Cure is basicly Super Sentai for girls. Only it's animated and hasn't been around nearly as long. Only since 2000 or so I think.

For those asking what PreCure is, it's short for Pretty Cure, it's start in 2004 and has been going since, it's pretty much what you would say the Kamen Rider/Super Sentai (Power Rangers) equivalent for girls. The only difference it's animated instead of live action, each series has a specific themes like butterflies,music,flowers,etc. The current one below is about sweets and animals. The reason Chris may like this is because of Megan and his whole autism and loving to see flashy things. Since it's made for young girls, the transformation scenes are over the top (more so than Sailor Moon) for example:
