That particular article had me wincing more than a little since it labels Tommy Robinson a racist, which tends to be the go-to pejorative for "he's really close to the truth on issues, so assassinate his character", but incidentally I do recall Bill Cooper in the late 1990s stating it was made known to him that Alex Jones is cointelpro. I have seen several instances myself where Jones will get seemingly close to uncovering evidence on a topic, then suddenly will reverse course 180 degrees and say that it doesn't matter.
I've always had the impression his handlers tell him when to shut up, and by association PJW also.
