Since technology is a constant (d)evolution of constant high numbers and stability for future use, finding the right parts is often a massive money-sink fuckfest. This thread is focused on learning kiwis trying to build (or suggest) computer parts by showing their setups through sites like PCPartPicker and asking tech-savvy users their recommendations on which parts to replace and improve upon as well as hopefully saving money from being gimped by companies who crave your wallets.

Here is my wishlist for reference: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jQ2wcb Which parts do you think is shit in the long run?

Can't quote you @WULULULULU , but I can only nitpick a few things. I don't like the newer EVGA series. They switched to a lower end OEM, but still charge as if they're selling supwerflower platforms. I'd rather find a used 2nd gen (I also think maybe 3rd gen). Or just buy directly from either SuperFlower or Seasonic and not give these guys the dime for slapping their name on it.

I'm rather biased against having spinner drives in my pc, but that's mostly because we made a cheap home storage PC that has the large spinners in it.

Depending on what type of display you're trying to drive and what games you're playing, the 8gb on that 3070ti is going to give out rather soon in the coming years. Yes I know people will say mem bandwidth and whatnot, but you think we would have learned the lesson of the R9 Fury X well by now. Apparently not.

I'm a mac guy so it all passes me by, I don't Game so I mostly focus on Internet, Photography, Word-processing and other tasks from time to time.

One thing that I always need though is storage, I've got thousands upon thousands of pictures, PDF documents (books mostly) and word documents and excel files.

I am considering trying to change it up a bit next time I get a computer but I am 3 - 4 years off that and I will have to see what's available but I am considering building myself a nice big fat storage box with lots of space so I am going to be looking at PC parts with lots of SATA ports.

Hmm, for the EVGA, I thought about it because someone in the same forum mentioned using EVGA for their 10+ Warranty and the fact that 1000W is a recommended PSU since some parts consume more than others. I'll plan on reconsidering. As for the 3070ti, I'm honestly torn about GPUs mainly because there are rumors of the newer GPUs coming soon meaning the 3000s and 6000s of Nvidia and Radeon might be obsolete. Right now I'm using it for reference in the case some miracle happens. The parts are also being picked out of future-proofing but lets see if the market changes.
I wouldn't bother watercooling the 5800X3D, it's only 105 watt and not overclockable.
That is true, though I'm also considering the majority of PC parts especially the GPU when it comes to heat. That being said, a Deepcool is an alternative and I've been using both tips from PC Builder and Gamers Nexus for reference. The market has become very unfriendly to some extent for new peeps wanting to break away from prebuilds.

GPU prices are coming down a bit. You can find 3060s now for around $375-400 (with some patience) on Ebay.

@WULULULULU bro GPUs don't just "go obsolete" when a new generation is released. In fact there are a lot of people still happily running 10 series cards waiting for prices to come back to earth. Nvidia will be hard pressed to release the 4000 series cards by Christmas, at least in any quantity. Remember how hyped ray tracing was in 2019? How it was going to make games photo realistic and how you just had to buy a 2000 series card to take advantage? Well it turns out ray tracing is just another incremental graphics improvement and most games that utilize it look well about the same as those that don't. It's similar to VR, a product that is 2 years away from being 2 years away for mainstream adoption.

With tech it's a buy it now or never game. There's always going to be another generation, another better product coming. Buy the tech you want now and enjoy it and when you need to upgrade for a new game or whatever do it.

Your build looks pretty decent I don't know why you are getting the hard drive if you are getting 2 nvme ssds. Also if you wait a little bit longer you could get a 3080 or a 3090 for cheaper but a 3070 is probably all you really need. I have a ryzen 3950x and a rtx 3090.

Pretty much HDD storage. The SSDs are for the usual programs but if I wanna store some other stuff like pictures, why not?
