In my experience, the VAST majority of upside-down crosses are used as an occult/Gothic reference, and NOT as a reference to Saint Peter. They were popularized by heavy metal edgelords in the 60's/70's to basically advertise that they had embraced evil. While the Saint Peter reference DOES predate the other, it is not widely-known. I grew up in Christian City in Christian Land in the deep south, and I've been to every church known to man; I've NEVER seen an upside-down cross used by anyone at any of them, and only even heard of it within the past few years via the Internet. I know it's a bit powerlevely, but I realize that most people don't have such a super-religious upbringing, so it's plausible to think "OH that's a Christian reference for fundies!"
It isn't. I'd never touch am upside-down cross because of the connotations. //sperging for nonfundies' benefits

As someone raised Catholic, I can tell you that the only time you will see an upside down cross is in old depictions of the death of Saint Peter. The only other Catholic use of the symbol is some of the Papal heraldry, and even then you would have to look for it. 99% of the time if you see someone using that symbol, they're either involved with the occult or are deliberately trying to offend Christians.

Ok I think the satanic angle is a hell of a stretch, but this is just bullshit. For decades the upside down cross has been entirely antichristian and acting like someone in this day and age - particularly someone who is American and therefore unlikely to know the crazy old catholic myth that Peter was crucified upside down - someone like Chelsea who has claimed, and been widely celebrated on the left for claiming, that she hasn't been religious since she was very young - is wearing it out of devotion to jesus, is utterly exceptional. And coming from you it just screams of pathetic desperation. You would have been better off claiming she is just another exceptional edgelord in what is apparently a big ass circle of edgelords.
