I think the user base that would "benefit" from this decision has given up on Facebook a long time ago already.
Does anyone under the age of 45 even still use Facebook that frequently?

Considering he has a controlling share, he can basically do what he wants. Shareholders spent years trying to stop him from focusing everything on the Metaverse.

Considering the EU Commission wants to probe companies for simply platforming "right wing extremist" politicians and "misinformation", it would only be an improvement.

Wether or not Dana White is doing good working at Meta, he's a huge piece of shit.

Dana was a cardio kickboxing instructor who was friends with the Fertita brothers, who come from a casino family. Dana is also in part responsible for fighters getting paid less than 18% of revenue for the last 17 years (the records are only available due to multiple anti trust/monopsony lawsuits going back to 2007). Professional WMBA players make more than 99% of UFC athletes.

Dana is a billionaire crony who made his money off of exploiting the athletes that made his product successful and lies as easily as he breathes. Total CEO death.
 
It feels as if the west right now is currently in its own period of Boluan Fanzheng. For those unfamiliar with modern Chinese history, this was the period after the Cultural Revolution where the radicals were marginalized and Party rhetoric shifted from "revolution" to "stability". I think the west's own "Cultural Revolution" started some time in the early 2010s and peaked with the Pandemic shutdown-induced mass hysteria of the Summer of 2020.

I think this shift is coming from both the bottom-up and the top-down. In China, the Cultural Revolution got out of hand because the student-led Red Guards came to the conclusion that they were a more effective vanguard for the revolution than the Party elite. A similar phenomenon is happening in the west, where the professional managerial class has realized that promoting cultural infighting is ultimately not good for their own bottom line.

But regular people are also increasingly burned out from social media-fuelled struggle sessions and competitions over ideological purity. The thing about radical political movements is that they require a lot of enthusiasm, which you can't maintain in the long-term. Especially when the goals that modern progressivism is demanding range from being nebulous ("We need to end racism!" - what does that look like?), unattainable ("America is stolen land!" - are we going to send the Mayflower back?), or sound nice in theory but are in practice deeply unpalatable ("Protect trans kids!" - sounds lovely, until your teenage daughter announces she wants her breasts cut off).

Zucc literally does not answer to shareholders. Facebook follows the modern "Class A/B" stock scheme, where all the voting power remains with the founders until death (or they decide to intentionally divest, but that's not gonna happen)

It was always disingenuous. I have met true believers but they're cogs in the machine, nothing more.
 
This is a step in the right direction but I fully agree with everyone here that this isn't indicative of some major shift by the elites.
 
I don't trust that Skinwalker for a second.

Still, it would nice to have more free speech on platforms outside of X, where an autistic meltdown of the Breeder in Chief is always possible and often destructive.
