There was an interesting essay about Invaders Must Die’s creative process on the band’s website when the album came out. Liam had three rules for the album:Invaders must die by Prodigy
Prodigy went through a long period of making somewhat disappointing stuff but this is great again.
Another bit of interesting trivia, the album was delayed by three months when it was almost completed, because Dave Grohl called Liam and offered to send him some drum loops to use as he pleased. Since nobody in their right mind would ever say no to that offer, the album was put on hold. The day after the call, UPS delivered a package to Liam Howlett that had a note, a license release form and a 2TB hard drive full of loops.
Liam wrote three new songs for the album, and the song on the album with the drum track that sounds the LEAST like it was played by a human is Pirhana, and the drum track for it is untouched, not sped up or manipulated in any way, it’s just Dave Grohl going apeshit on a drum kit.
Grohl has repeatedly called The Prodigy the greatest rock band of all time, and is the main reason Nirvana never sued over the guitar riff from Very Ape being sampled without permission on Voodoo People.Didn't know that. That's fascinating.
Toxicity was better
Powerslave is fucking amazing. All tracks are superb but “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” may be the best song the group ever did.Powerslave is probably perfect-er, but I'll fend for NotB's perfectness. I even like "Invaders" and "Gangland"
