Invaders must die by Prodigy

Prodigy went through a long period of making somewhat disappointing stuff but this is great again.
There was an interesting essay about Invaders Must Die’s creative process on the band’s website when the album came out. Liam had three rules for the album:
1.) No song over 3 minutes. Leave the listener wanting more.

2.) No Filler. Every song on the album had to be good enough to be a single on its own. (Keep in mind, Liam has black holed more material than some artists ever record due to his perfectionism. There are at least 50 songs he recorded and then deleted because he didn’t feel they were good enough that any other artist would have been lucky to come up with)

3.) No cool down tracks. Every track had to be a rocker.

Another bit of interesting trivia, the album was delayed by three months when it was almost completed, because Dave Grohl called Liam and offered to send him some drum loops to use as he pleased. Since nobody in their right mind would ever say no to that offer, the album was put on hold. The day after the call, UPS delivered a package to Liam Howlett that had a note, a license release form and a 2TB hard drive full of loops.

Liam wrote three new songs for the album, and the song on the album with the drum track that sounds the LEAST like it was played by a human is Pirhana, and the drum track for it is untouched, not sped up or manipulated in any way, it’s just Dave Grohl going apeshit on a drum kit.

The A side has amazing songs like Afterglow of Your Love, Dockers Delight (yes it's about a hooker) and Lazy Sunday Afternoon. The B side is a 5 song musical story told in a bizarre language about a guy called Happiness Stan who loves in a rainbow. He discovers half the moon is missing and goes out to look for it. Drugs were likely consumed in its writing and it's utterly amazing.

Didn't know that. That's fascinating.

Feathers and Flesh by Avatar. Tells a great grim story full of symbolism, and based on folklore.

Heroes.jpg
Heroes - David Bowie
Soundtrack from Twin Peaks - Angelo Badalamenti
Piper at the gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd
Sign "O" the Times - Prince
Here's Little Richard - Little Richard
Funkentelechy Vs. The Placebo Syndrome - Parliament
The Idiot - Iggy Pop
Throwin' Down - Rick James
Van Halen - Van Halen
Remain in Light - Talking Heads

tbh I could put in a lot more Bowie albums but I wanted to limit it to one per artist.

The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed
Camel - Mirage (this one may have been listed already)
Throwing my hat in for Dark Side, WYWH, and Animals
Uriah Heep - Demons and Wizards
Blue Öyster Cult - Tyranny and Mutation (though I consider Secret Treaties a better album)
Rush - A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres (sometimes as a double album)

Fuckin A by Anal Cunt.

Ten normal-length tracks, as opposed to the usual 40 or so thirty-second bursts of what sounds like a cat being dragged backwards under the strings of a feedbacking electric guitar.

Offensive in every possible way shape and form. From the opening salvo of 'Fuck Yeah!' where the lead singer, Seth Putnam, describes his ideal woman (a racist twelve-year-old with big tits, who holds down a full time job, allowing him the luxury of remaining at home where he can fuck other women) to the yowled volley of racist slurs directed towards the subject of 'I Wish My Dealer Was Open - A song bemoaning the unavailability of hard drugs, performed with the conviction of Kurt Cobain reliving some childhood trauma.

All the more incredible for having been recorded in-between Putnam's crack, heroin and 2 months worth of Ambien-induced coma, and his eventual death at the age of 43. I wish that he was still around to comment on current progressive culture and to record Picnic of Love (Volume 2) - the promised sequel to another classic Anal Cunt album.
