I've heard the rumors, but I didn't really go out buying merch until now. But I was watching Jelly's birthday stream live and thought "What the hell, might as well" given that it looked pretty neat. I think my point stands, six months (plus shipping) for merch is insane.

I assume it's a complete inability to forecast, or their volume is so low, forecasting is impossible without potentially being financially ruinous. I think they have done some early prototyping (Tenma mentioned she had seen her birthday brick), and I can't imagine you need much prototyping for yet another acrylic standee or keychain, but things are different when Tenma wants a plush brick or Mari wants a card binder.
they've issues with prototyping with the artbook and the beanie babies being most well known. the protos came in poor quality and had to be redeveloped with another manufacturer. the quality of non plastic shit is also terrible. my lumi mug turned into a regular mug because the images washed off after handwashing.
