I am simply trying to warn you of what is going to happen because we have seen it happen time and time again with every other subculture. Tabletop, Comics, Games, Movies, and now VTubing. Pull your head out of your ass and stop giving your enemies money.
I remember when cumtown was hilarious and now it's just adam friedland struggling to interview people. things change as they get old. but one thing doesn't and that's you. you can change vtubing.

I don't even know why you would larp about it in China Connect for so long (outside of the grift), the blow would have been less brutal Going from Chinese to Chinese Jew then White to Chinese Jew.
i know everyone says jews aren't white, but they are. just look at their white skin.

Is Kaneko Lumi of Phase Connect secretly Chinese? (yes)

There has long been rumor and speculation about Kaneko Lumi's family history. The community memes that she is a descendant of the Romanov dynasty but this is merely a joke. Lumi has, however, explicitly claimed to be Slavic and has frequently referred to herself as a "White girl". Recently however, leaked Discord DMs between Lumi and Cyberlive talent Ayane Hylo from September 2021 explicitly say Lumi is "non white" and we received a third-hand account from unnamed sources that she is, in fact, Chinese.

First some fundamental information about Lumi: She is a serial liar. Lumi lies for sport, to ragebait chat, and for her own amusement. Most importantly, Lumi likely lies about her past as a form of opsec. While she does describe true details about her personal life on stream, she also plants red herrings so that it's harder for anyone to pin down exactly who she is IRL. This means that any personal information disclosed by Lumi herself is extremely suspect. It also means that lying about her race is absolutely within her character because she would find it funny as hell.

Here's a rough biography I've pieced together based on what I think is true. Lumi is 5'4" and likely in her early 30s. She has a younger brother who is in his early 20s (the brother is younger than Uruka who is ~24 IIRC). Her parents were relatively wealthy but fled an unspecified communist country in the 1980s or 1990s and immigrated to America. Both parents are college professors (can't find a source but I thought I remembered her saying this?) and -- this will be important later -- her parents knew each other growing up. Lumi grew up on the East coast and claims to have been born in Boston. Lumi did two years of a music degree before switching to an engineering-related degree, which she mastered in. Lumi played piano at a concert-level, does ballet, and likes to go to the opera. Lumi debuted in CyberLive's first generation in July 2021, likely while she was still in school or had freshly graduated. She apparently had some sort of additional managerial responsibilities at CyberLive as well. Lumi left CyberLive in March 2022 amidst troubles at that agency, then joined Phase-Connect the following month as an Invader.

I want to get something out of the way: Lumi has explicitly claimed to be White. While Lumi's vtuber avatar is blonde-haired and blue-eyed, it is not the case that chat merely assumed Lumi is White IRL and she neither confirmed nor denied. Here Lumi claims her family is Russian. Here Lumi claims she did not fit into the "Asian woman driving" collab because she is White, and that Rie added her into the collab as an oversight. Here Lumi implies her family is Slavic, which is why she knows how to braid hair, then asks "Do Asians not braid their hair?" Here Lumi says she is turning into a "babushka" as she ages. Here a chat member asks Lumi about her family's life in the USSR, and she does not correct them while telling the story. Here Lumi calls a Russian cartoon "my childhood". In this stream titled 'white woman jumpscare', Lumi specifies multiple times that she is trying to make the character look how she does IRL. She even goes as far as to fuss over making the character look "less Asian" (it's a Korean game so all the characters wind up looking a bit Asian) and this is the final appearance she ended up on:

LumiINZOI.jpg

Obviously a character creator will not be 100% accurate but I will point out that other streamers like Shiina, MariMari_EN, and Kiara were able to recreate themselves quite well. When Runie was making a character in this game she was clear that she was trying to make a higher-fidelity version of her vtuber avatar, not something that looks like she does IRL. Lumi is constantly saying "my eyebrows", "my jawline", "my eyes" while adjusting the character's appearance -- we are meant to think she really looks like this.

I want to highlight the only instance I can find of someone else describing Lumi's physical appearance in detail. Dizzy jokingly describes Lumi as a hardy, bear-like Russian woman who is 6'5". Now, obviously we know this is not true because Lumi is thin as a rail but if you'll allow me to psychoanalyze: This is a VERY Dizzy way to lie. Instead of spinning us a yarn about Lumi's blue eyes, her Russian facial features, etc. and trying to sound convincing, Dizzy instead tells an over-the-top obvious falsehood in a joking manner so that it doesn't seem like she's hiding anything. She even says "I've been waiting for this" in response to the chatter asking what Lumi looks like -- why would you need to prepare what you're going to say about someone's appearance? We do know that Lumi's hair is not dark like Ember's or Dizzy's (because that was how Jelly was telling them apart) but of course there's no reason that couldn't simply be from dye.

Evidence that Lumi is Chinese:

In January 2025, Lumi attended a friend's wedding in China. Right out of the gate, it's a little weird for a White girl from Boston to have a friend in China who is close enough to invite you to a wedding. But in her story, Lumi says people were coming up to her and asking to take pictures because she is White. Hmmm.... sure. We find out in a later handcam stream that Lumi had another Chinese friend at the wedding. Lumi does say here that she can speak Mandarin, but uses Google translate to read the packaging on food, implying relatively poor fluency.

In April 2022, Lumi had a collab with Uruka where both of them are chatting in Mandarin Chinese.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=FQs0Hlna7NI
Now if I understand correctly, Uruka spoke Taiwanese from a young age, which is related to Mandarin but not mutually intelligible. Think like the difference between Russian and German. Uruka is largely self-taught in Mandarin, but took an introductory class in high school. Throughout the collab it is extremely obvious that Lumi's proficiency in Mandarin is much better than Uruka's, not only in terms of vocabulary, but also in terms of pronunciation. From my understanding, Chinese pronunciation is one of the most difficult things to pick up for a non-native speaker but should at least hypothetically be easier if you know a closely related language. So it's really odd that this White girl speaks better Chinese than the Taiwanese girl... but maybe Lumi is just that good?

Let's highlight some timestamps from this VOD. Disclaimer: My machine translation software isn't perfect, especially since they are not speaking pristine Chinese, but there are also parts of the conversation in English. At 7:00, Lumi describes going to New York's Chinatown to practice her Chinese but being disappointed that everyone there spoke Cantonese, which she could not read or understand. Lumi also said she doesn't have lots of people to practice her Chinese with (keep in mind she's been moved out for a while by this point). At 17:00 Lumi explains Mandarin pronunciation to Uruka. At 12:00 and 1:51:00 Lumi show a surprising depth of knowledge with Chinese childrens' songs. At 16:20, Lumi describes being a "foreign guest speaker" in high school which, from what I can tell, was supposed to be something like a show-and-tell of speaking Chinese. At 2:10:00 Lumi says she knew lots of Chinese girls who took AP Chinese courses for their foreign language requirement in high school (which is what Uruka did) but Lumi wanted to "actually learn a language", so she took Spanish classes instead. Note that this strongly implies that Lumi already knew Chinese before high school, to a level where an introductory class would have been pointless.

Lastly, most damningly in my opinion, Lumi tells a story about how her mother prepared sauerkraut when Lumi was growing up (timestamp 2:21:00 in the VOD)
and she quotes her mother in Mandarin.

Conclusion: Lumi's mother is Chinese, and they apparently spoke Mandarin in the home. But could Lumi be half Asian? No. Remember that her parents grew up in the same region, knew each other, and even wrote letters back and forth. I don't see any reason why this would be one of her red herrings because she merely said it to give context for the story she was actually trying to tell. That means that in all likelihood both of her parents are Chinese.

I leave you with a clip that hits a little different with this new knowledge

Speak for yourself, I am a perfectly well adjusted individual.

Anyway I bought a Tenma plush so I could send her pics and vids of me beating the shit out of it and choking it in BJJ holds for her yearly muscle review thing but apparently it's members only this year and a bunch of other gay shit so now I just own a Tenma plush I guess.
You bought a Tenma plush but won't pay $5 for one month and then cancel?

That's a lot of tl;dr autistic prose to say 'Vtuber may have lied to maintain opsec.'.

Besides, you only need to hear the account of Lumi's driving from Blu Autism Ber to know the terrible truth:

Lu ming, my beloved. I know my social credit score isn't high enough but we can have our wedding in the Mainland to appease your overbearing mother :heart-full:

The more and more I see of the completely unhinged and insane meltdown Lumi had all of yesterday, the more I am convinced of deep problems within Phase.

I suspect there's more than one "silent" Lumi. Many fans are weirdly defending her.

Yeah, something snapped with this whole debacle, will be interesting to see what happens going forward.

A few members between November and January have said that 2026 feels like a "do or die," "make it or break it" year for the company. Iirc, Shiina, Uruka, Airi and Pippa have said things to that effect for sure. If they're willing to say it, you know others are thinking it. I can only imagine the pressures that would prompt that feeling to be the zeitgeist within the company.

gotta make phase con great, gotta sing, gotta dance, gotta do meet and greets and panels, gotta get on the phaseco booth monitor and hawk phase coffee.

all the other corps are dying or hate phase so phase will have to do all the heavy lifting. i bet the pressure to make this shitty con successful is unbearable.

e: oh yeah, when lumi took over manager duties for cyberlive, everyone blamed her for every fuckups that happened. It ended with her and yuri/kiba quitting (they got married in the farewell stream) and cyberlive folding. there were a few cyberlive dm leaks and lumi's judeo-sino tears about how the fans and the talents blamed her for stuff.

Pippa's hosting a sea shanty karaoke party in support of the USS Hornet Museum tonight. Thankfully (so far) with other phase talent singing:
They're at $31,770 of the $35,000 needed for the extra gangways.
Edit to add: they hit the goal tonight, 9 days early. That covers the down payment, which was apparently half the cost. Onward toward the whole thing!

I thought last nights stream was going to push it over but it was a bit of a shitshow. This one will most definitionally do so.

Unhinged meltdown? Did something happen aside from her telling people on twitter to shut up and stop bothering the talents?
