Piece of shit software - Crappy software/apps/programs that make you MATI

This fucking bloated, unintuitively designed pile of garbage is needed to use most advanced documents because for some reason Adobe controls PDFs exclusively. Words cannot describe my burning hatred of this software.
I find Foxit to be kindof nice personally

Motherfucking EasyAntiCheat
I genuinely do not understand why companies continue to use EAC when we know for a fact at this point it does fuck all. They added it to Sea of Thieves for instance like a month or two ago.

Surprise, surprise. There's still cheaters. Hell, I used to play Dragonball Xenoverse 2 a lot back in the day. It originally had no anti-cheat at all and it had a huge cheater problem. But instead of actually fixing the issue by adding an anti-cheat that actually works, they just added EAC to the game.
Can you guess what happened?
Yeah, there were still fucking cheaters out the ass.
Literally all it did was more or less castrate the modding scene for the game. (Because most of the big mods that people liked were just cosmetic shit like this one mod that made all clothing items colorable. I miss that mod but it never gets updated anymore.)

Every single game with EAC without fail always has a big cheater problem. It's literally the same as having no anti-cheat. All it does is annoy regular players or players who want to use mods, even if they're totally harmless mods. I do not know why developers still keep paying to use their absolutely useless software. It's literally the anti-cheat equivalent of placebo.

I've been looking for an email client that isn't a massive piece of shit.

Microsoft's Mail was fine. They recently forced a switch to New Outlook, and New Outlook is one of the most broken pieces of software I have ever used. It regularly fails to fetch mail from my IMAP server in a timely manner, and calendar events will magically disappear for no reason. It clearly was only really tested on the major webmail services, because it shits the bed constantly if you're not using GMail or something.

I switched to Thunderbird. Being open-source software, it's a little janky and has a number of the creators' biases built in, like their belief that sorting mail from newest to oldest is "illogical." (You can still fix it, thankfully.) However, Thunderbird's calendar does not process Teams invitations correctly...and this problem has been around for years.

If I get an invitation to a Teams meeting, Thunderbird deletes the link and only shows plain text on the calendar. I searched on line and found that this bug has been in Thunderbird for years.

Holy fucking shit.

How have you had a product this long and you still cannot correctly parse one of the most common calendar invitations in existence?

What's the fix? "Don't use Teams."

Get fucked, Mozilla.

Adobe PS CS6 works great in wine and has all the same features you'd need that the modern versions have because Adobe has been coasting for 20 years. Take the retro path and stay in 2012 forever.

Thread tax: Harness. I doubt anyone has used it. It's a deployment platform for enterprise. Nothing sucks more than sitting there watching it try and fail try and fail to do a simple deployment on a Friday night.

Electron is the worst piece of shit to have ever graced the eyes of software engineers and is singlehandedly the reason people have to keep upgrading their hardware. It's unoptimized hot garbage that is so fucking bloated and eats up resources like a fucking pig, yet for some reason everyone uses it as the foundation for their fucking software even when it is completely unnecessary and better suited to more optimized libraries since they don't run fucking separate instances of Google Chrome.

A chat platform, text editor, or even fucking game launcher DRM should not and do not need to use a glorified embedded web browser to function and if you're using it then you should be lined up against the fucking wall. Fucking piece of shit.

if you want real horror check out webview2. hope you enjoy the IE6 flashbacks. and yes of course it doesn't work with a normal user account with programs that require admin, because who'd need security on windows.

however when it comes to electron I blame the w3c more. in itself using html rendering for UI isn't the worst idea, especially that would've been supported by a tight and strict standard (like xthml), not that edge-case and exception riddled shit that's the modern web.

It is used so software companies only have to maintain one pajeetscript codebase without having to account for platform-specific bugs.

I recently came across the meme attached and it struck a chord enough to make a post.
I've pretty much always had spotify premoum (due to an old college account discount) that I had to get rid of a few months ago. I saw that Spotify wasnt great unpaid, but I didnt think much of it, and went and just got Xmanager like any reasonable person would. However just a few weeks ago, Spotify locked down their api more, and xmanager quit working (fixed now but I digress), and then I saw that spotify unpaid wasn't good again, and tried to make it work this time, and wow. I had 0 idea its become that bad.
The meme is genuinly so true. If you don't pay for spotify premium you
Have tons of ads (back to back ads)
Limited number of skips (which is extra bad if you're listening to a podcast with sponors)
Cannot listen without shuffling
Cannot order a Playlist
Cannot listen to an individual song (so if you search for a specific song, you cannot listen to it before you add it to anything. This means if i look for "war pigs", and click on that song, it will not play that song)

I  despise this trend of locking the most basic and important of features behind a paywall. The worst part is too, it works, normies don't even think about, let alone know how to sideload a different app like xmanager or YouTube revanced. I hate how these companies crack down on these apps as well, since the piracy principle applies anyone who pirates media (or uses one of these apps) would never purchase the product anyways, and with no alternative, simply wouldn't use it.

GIMP is mostly good, but it seems to be getting increasingly crappy.

Like the dithering thing tends to make images dark and de-saturated.

edit to add: And of course, you need an account to send in feedback.

Recently I have been forced to install Discourse, the forum software. You'd think this is a solved problem, with so many others doing it before, but no, it is a monster. Because nested containers are for niggers (Docker), I installed it into a Debian virtual machine, following the steps. I expected the usual amount of digging up undocumented packages, configure make make install dance but it goes above and beyond.

It has an intense obsession on being on the bleeding edge of everything for no reason. Version of Ruby in APT? Nope, feel free to use rbenv to upgrade to the bleeding edge (protip: rbenv is also a piece of shit). Version of ImageMagick in APT? Nope, install from source, can't possibly make this convenient or anything. Install this Nodejs package manager from APT? No, install the first package manager from APT, then install the second package manager from the first package manager, and don't forget NVM to switch to the VERY specific version of Node we require because these jivin' jiggaboos just can't make up their minds and languages other than JavaScript are hard!

You even get this as an end user if you're a minor version out of date in your browser, you get one of those bars scolding you to UPDATE! Update NOW! We are on the update treadmill speeding faster and faster and SO ARE YOU!

And as the cherry on top, it will not run until it first downloads Chromium, on the server, because fuck you I guess. I should mention I had to restart this process twice, once because for sure, the OS + dependencies would not exceed 8GB (no space left on device) and for sure, 2GB of RAM ought to be enough to simply show the sample content (GC did not succeed).

In conclusion, if there was one person I'd go back in time and strangle in the crib it wouldn't be Hitler, or Stalin, or Genghis, or JFK, or Trump, or Biden, it would be Jeff fuckin' Atwood.

Discourse is such a piece of shit to archive too.

Similar to Robert Martin, you really start seeing his writings in another light once you realize how shit his actual software is.

This software isn't crappy, but I want to complain about scummy developer behavior.

There's an Android app called Mapy.com (previously Mapy.cz). I got lots of maps for offline use (you could just save them to your phone) before they changed the name.

I updated the app today. You only get a single country for free and THEY DELETE EVERYTHING YOU ALREADY HAVE. Had I known that, I wouldn't have updated it. It's just preposterous.
