The Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) today called for the immediate release of Imam Ayman Soliman, a respected Muslim chaplain at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and imam at Clifton Mosque, who was detained yesterday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Imam Ayman Soliman immigrated to the United States from Egypt over a decade ago and was granted asylum based on credible fears of political persecution. He has no criminal record and has lived here for years under lawful asylum status. In December 2024, his asylum was unexpectedly revoked without clear explanation or due process.

He was detained yesterday morning during a routine ICE check-in. Imam Ayman is widely respected for his service to the Cincinnati community, including his role as the first official Islamic chaplain at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where he has provided essential spiritual care to patients and families.

His detention raises serious concerns about due process and the integrity of the U.S. asylum system. Given his history of political activism in Egypt, Imam Ayman faces grave risk of persecution, imprisonment, or even death if deported.

CAIR Ohio strongly condemns this unjust detention and calls on federal immigration authorities to:

- Immediately release Imam Ayman Soliman and halt deportation proceedings

- Restore his asylum status.

- Ensure full transparency in ICE’s decision making and uphold all legal protections for asylum seekers.

In a statement, CAIR-OH Executive Director Khalid Turaani said:

ā€œThis is an unconscionable abuse of power that puts the life of a kind and dedicated community leader at risk. Imam Ayman has served Cincinnati with compassion and integrity. Revoking his asylum without cause or process is not only cruel, it is a betrayal of America’s values. We demand his immediate release and a full investigation into this injustice.ā€

In a statement, CAIR-OH Staff Attorney Bilal Ahmed, Esq., said:

ā€œImam Ayman’s shockingly abrupt detention raises great concerns regarding potential due process violations. Imam Ayman came to the United States from Egypt to escape precisely the type of arbitrary detention he is facing now. We are truly saddened by the developments in his case, but remain committed to assisting Imam Ayman in whatever capacity we can.ā€

ODOC is so incompetent they are killing people by not being able to manage the paperwork for their meds. If the OR incarcerated population had a different racial profile maybe someone would care but it's cletus so no one cares. People are literally going to care more about this Egyptian but it's very doubtful anyone will track the origin of his woes to some OR state employee making an oopsydoodle and then being too lazy and on permaleave to deal with it.
You keep writing OR… Are you talking Oregon? This happened in Ohio.

Every group that thought it was untouchable starting to realize that intentionally antagonizing the locals does, in fact, come at a cost.

Imagine how much people might have cared about cases like this if muslims hadn’t spent the past 24 or so years rubbing their collective asses on the carpet. Someone might hear ā€œImam to be deportedā€¦ā€ and keep listening for more before thinking ā€œgoodā€.

The original fuckup happened in Oregon. Mr Nice Imam Man wanted to be a prison chaplain, the ODOC said sorry you can't be a prison chaplain because when we submitted your deets to the FBIs they said you are bad. Mr Nice Imam Man said I am not bad, you gave them the wrong fingerprints. The OCOC said yeah probably we did whoopsiedoodle.

Like I said originally I don't think anyone who doesn't deal with these people is going to believe that that is what happened but since I deal with these people all the time I know that is exactly what happened. But normally people just have to eat it and not get the job/their meds/their court date that allows them to see their kids/the money they're waiting for that is stuck in probate. Mr Nice Imam Man had organized co-religionists and co-ethnics to fund lawsuits about the fuckup and generally kick up a fuss. This is presumably why his asylum was revoked, in retaliation against the lawsuits.

Right, so if CAIR's saying this the man must have made the whole thing up and has since been diddling the kids he's supposedly comforting.
I'll bet the little detail they're leaving out is that this peace loving Imam is connected to the Muslim Brotherhood.
The FBI formally declared CAIR an unindicted co-conspirator in a big case against the Muslim Brotherhood, so yeah, probably.
