I'm shocked that they're no thread about this games franchise
It curently have 4.5 games
The original
the sequel wich was the best
the third one wich ad decent feature but is quite short
The 3ds spin off wich is kinda ok is not really a true pikmin game
And the deluxe edtion of the third one who have nice and short expansion but the gameplay suffer due to controller difference

played the first game last year and i liked it. the game was comfy but also filled me with dread because the time limit and some of the weird animal life kicking my ass. got the worst ending because i thought you didint need to get 99% of the parts to escape the planet because Olimar comments how many of these parts are useless or dosent really know how they work. it pissed me off so much i started a new playthrough and took the knowledge i learned from my first one and got everything. it was a fun game and i grow to like olimar more than i thought i would and i shed tears everytime i lost an army of pikmin during an assault.

i played the second game during the holidays. i find it rather funny (and sad) that oilmar, who escaped almost cretin death, got blamed for putting his working company in debt and forced to help pay it by going back to the planet he crash landed and almost died on. he didint even have time to visit his own family. hell, you realize olimar is your average Japanese salaryman past his prime, who never sees his kids, always works, wife nagging at him constantly and remembering the good old days of the past. it cuts deep. anyway, the game itself is an improvement over the first game but cant say im a big fan of the dungeon crawling. payed the debt and now started the mission to find the other guy who went missing. (didint like him. the sounds he makes made me remember the sounds of retards from my school days) the new area looks like pure hell to explore and the first treasure i can pick up, needs a THOUSOND PIKMENS TO MOVE IT!

>Pikmin 2
>better than any other than hey pikmin
slight disagree tho 3 is my favorite because it's a good balance between 1's strict time and 2's endless game stuff.

Have fun with the final boss, it's fucking insane.

The Overlord series is another one to try if you like Pikmin-style gameplay. It's more Pikmin than Hey! Pikmin for sure.

Pikmin is weird. I feel the chasm between 2 and 3 is similar to the one between Paper Mario : TTYD and the later PMs, the game deviates off towards complexity and Miyamoto reigned it in to bring it back towards the type of simplicity he likes with questionable results. Both are great games, but in different ways which only really become apparent if you ignore the main quest and focus on the bonus modes.

In 2 you just get a linear set of pseudo-rng extended cave challenges that really test your management and navigation ability as well as luck in getting a good layout. The maps are scored on a simple three star rating system with a gradual difficulty ramp from easy to nearly impossible.

In 3 you have challenge mode levels, all of which are available immediately as soon as you've seen their corresponding story mode maps. You can play them in any order and they're not difficult to beat, but in order to actually get a good score you need extreme game knowledge and ability to micro. Like Katamari Damacy you can play the maps over and over and find new exploits and it's comfy as hell if you enjoy that kind of thing, and unlike 2 you can do this consistently since the maps have fixed handmade layouts.

Tldr on this autism : Miyamoto likes his sandbox and dislikes procgen and I'm considering picking up Deluxe if I can confirm if has more challenge mode levels than vanilla 3. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

I enjoy the score attack focus of the Pikmin games, with how they encourage you to play through multiple times to optimize the number of days. It was hella fun to play Pikmin 3 on ultra spicy difficulty and do as much as possible in one day. I ended up beating the game in 10 days and doing so with all the fruit in 13. Beating the last area and boss in 1 day with only 60 Pikmin was an enjoyable sort of hell.
It's a shame that the series is so niche; we probably wouldn't have gotten more than 1 Pikmin game if Miyamoto didn't like it so much.

You haven't played Pikmin till you come across this asshole.

I played the original all the way back in 2001, I really liked it, I especially loved how gorgeous it's environments looked at the time.

However while I played the sequel I got bored and didn't finish it, it just felt like more of the same to me, I'm sure I was probably being too hard on it though.

Never played the third because I never had a Wii U but eventually I'd like to play the Switch port.

I should probably finally replay the original sometime this year since it's it's 20th anniversary.

I once found a video about pikmin 4 idea. Like massive map 5 time bigger than the current one with multiple landing... and also the capitain have each different attribute... I wanted to show it but I lost it

Pikmin 3 deluxe is actually selling well, so maybe Pikmin 4 will actually happen.

Pikmin 3 felt very small, I remember Pikmin 2 felling like a much bigger game, but apparently they are nearly identical in length. Not sure how that works.

the mission bro...

I'm running back Pikmin 2 for the first time since I was a kid, and really enjoying it. Working my way through the Perplexing Pool now, and everything about the game is as charming as I remember (especially Olimar's notes and the treasure names). My only complaints are that some of the dungeons get really tedious, and purple pikmin are way too good in combat compared to the others.

My wife loves hey pikmin for some reason. I have not found time to play it yet, but pikmin as a platformer sounds so off putting. (she never played the originals)

Pikmin 3 was one of the few games I was considering getting a Wii U for and glad it came for the Switch. I was expecting more Wii U ports to come to the Switch last year since it would been easier to add more titles to the Switch during Corona.

What of note is still left? Xenoblade x, zelda HD games, devil's third, meme run?

A Fatal Frame game too, which I recall was censored in the West.
There was also Yoshi Wolly Island on the WiiU which looked cuter than the cardboard version on Switch.
Kirby's Epic Yarn and Yoshi's Wooly World should be rereleased as a compilation called Digital Valium.
