Pikmin Thread Re-bumped so now I gotta post this interesting theory:
 
I have the Pikmin game that was released for the Switch. I bought it back in 2020. I always wanted to play Pikmin game, but I never owned a Nintendo system after the SNES. I have a Pikmin game on the Switch and I haven't really played much of it.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe? It's good. It's a fun play if you haven't played a pikmin game before. But I recommend you played the other two as well. Man, I wish GameCube games were on the Switch.
 
Never got into the 3rd game, looked kind of lame compared to the original two. Loved the original two however, I actually just found out about the announcement for Pikmin 4 a few minutes ago which may be what finally pushes me to get a Nintendo Switch which I hadn't even considered before.

I'm really hoping this is more of a mix of the first two games in that there's the goal of searching for parts and upgrading the ship as well as the exploration and treasure hunting of the 2nd game and the caves/dungeons to explore. Since they nailed open world gameplay in Breath of the Wild it would be absolutely ludicrous to have an open world Pikmin game.

What are people's thoughts on the new game and what they would want to see?
 

The fiance is already letting his nostalgia get the best of him. He wants to buy this schlock DAY ONE despite never playing Pikmin 3 due to it being "just a fruit collector game that doesn't even focus on Olimar."

Biggest reason why not to invest in Pikmin 4 in my opinion anyway:

Some thoughts:

The positives and neutrals
1.) Oatchi seems to be the Pikmin version of Poochy from Yoshi's Island. You can command him and play as him as well?
2.) Caves are back! And it doesn't seem they dumb down the difficulty at all.
3.) The levels look really alive and well.
4.) Night time levels? Awesome!

The negatives
1.) Ice pikmin looks like another attempt by nintendo to undercut blue pikmin's role as the water pikmin. They also feel very fanfictiony.
2.) I already don't care for the new captains. They are already discount versions of Pikmin 3's captains. <Insert joke of Shepherd being a strong whamen of color here>
There is also something..... Off with their character designs. They look like old painted wooden dolls. They do not have those geometrical eyelids like what Charlie has and they don't squint like what Olimar and Louie do.

Yeah these captains look really weird. This dude's eyes really freak me out.

Honestly, I was almost convinced they wouldn't bring 4 captains into the game simply because it would be too much of a balancing act/having anymore captains would just be kinda pointless if you've got just 1 captain left that's mostly unused. Will probably have to see once it's fully out but... my god what are those character designs?
