Pikmin thread

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
So, I managed to 100% the entire first area in the demo. It's crazy how much they let you do if you're smart about not going over the 1500 sparklium limit.

PROS:
  • The game looks amazing
  • The levels are gigantic
  • The new camera angle is actually really cool
  • Dandori battles are fun
  • Caves aren't randomly generated and actually have puzzles in them
  • The Pikmin are cuter than ever. They hum the theme from Pikmin 2's Awakening Wood, and they play with each other if you idle long enough
  • The story has the potential to be really cool
  • The Piklopedia has been massively expanded. You can throw multiple types of objects at the enemies, hit them with status effects, and even engage them in combat.
CONS:
  • The game is piss easy. Even easier than Pikmin 3. I didn't lose a single pikmin in the demo and I played for around 5 hours.
  • Oatchi kind of steals the show and it takes focus away from the pikmin. His ability to let pikmin latch on to him while you ride around means you'll never lose any of them unless you're directly engaged in combat
  • The characters suck and never stop talking. The amount of tutorials in the first couple hours is egregious. Thankfully, you can skip almost every cutscene.
  • Ice pikmin are disgustingly overpowered
  • The new auto-lock on feature sucks balls and cannot be turned off. Expect to get frustrated when you're trying to throw a bunch of pikmin into a crowd of tiny enemies.

I am looking forward to 4 but I hope I don't get annoyed like I did in 3. I think I stopped playing 3 was the constant switching between the 3 characters got be stuck at one part. I think I need to replay that game but was wondering anyone here got tired from 3 as well.

4 defenitly does not have that problem so far, its only 2 captains thankfully and they rarely need to depart from eachother

Allright I just played all three for the first time & the demo.
3 > 1 > 2
I liked them all, but holy shit 2's dungeons got on my nerves. I think with the demo it's doing a make it harder yourself sort of thing instead of adding actual difficulties like with 3. Like you can control how many onions to get or if to upgrade Oatchi. Beating Pikmin 3 with 60 Pikmin is not too hard, so I think this is the right approach.
Also what do you guys think about Pikmin 4 being a soft reboot? I'm not sure about that. I saw website advertising Pikmin 4 that included all the previous captains and I feel like they wouldn't have done that or name it Pikmin 4 if it was a reboot.

I would be pretty disappointed if it turns out to be a reboot.

Dunno what's the current consensus on the story, but my guess is this isn't an alternate timeline where Olimar failed to get back home from Pikmin 1 but just an event where after Pikmin 3, he failed to return to Hocatate and now became this weird hairy creature.
Probably definitely wrong and it could be something entirely different but that's how I interpret it.

honestly this is how I see it, it wouldn't make much sense to have it be called pikmin 4 and be a reboot of the series

Nintendo has been advertising this game fairly well, but they didn't even need to. I've been seeing clips of crazy Pikmin fans paying to have Pikmin memes for Pikmin 4 on Times Square billboards 24/7 for like two weeks now.

Got my hands on Pikmin 4 and after 10 hours of play (didn't really feel like it), I'd say the game is pretty fun but I have certain gripes with it. I hate that youre capped on Pikmin for a considerable amount of time (like as of right now I have about 60 max that I can carry). I'm not super far into the game but this shit better change soon. Also you can only carry 3 types of Pikmin at a time as of where I'm in the game right now. I kind of wish there was a hard mode like Pikmin 3 Deluxe but other than that I have no major complaints about the game. It runs well on a mid tier PC using Ryujinx.

The Dog is OP as shit, like it can carry the weight of 100 Pikmin in a very short time OP.
