How's Usenet? Can you find really obscure shit there?
Downloads go a lot faster than torrenting and my indexers have pretty nice organization. I haven't looked for anything actually obscure yet so I wouldn't really know
US or EU? I'm looking at EU options and usenet.farm gets recommended pretty often as a privacy-friendly provider, but otherwise I am not really sure criteria to go by.
US I think
Honestly don't know if my provider is that good but it just werks for me

It's hit or miss and depends on your indexer and service provider. Generally it's pretty good for TV/Movies, but less reliable for things like music, books, games etc. That's not to say you can find those things on Usenet, you can just find what you're looking for less reliably than you can with TV Shows/Movies.

The tech is to leech new material you expect to stay popular for a while, not material you want. IPT makes this easier than most with the "Hot Right Now" and "Staff Picks" sections. If you see something really new on either of those lists, grab it. If your connection is decently fast, you'll get several times ratio on those. Freeleech, as has been said, is also good for this, but there has to be a "market" for new downloads.

This strategy will even work for "ultra-hard" sites to get ratio on like Orpheus or Redacted. Look at new downloads, snag stuff you expect to be popular, delete it in a few weeks.
I actually made a donation to IPTorrent while I was still trying to figure this shit out, so I have a fair amount of surplus credits already. Since I was having trouble with seeding, I donated to balance my leeching out.

How the fuck do I get seeding to work? I use qBittorrent and once a torrent gets into "seeding" status, the upload details look like this:
You wait for people to leech off you, silly.

With iptorrent, just leave stuff seeding. Even if the torrent isn’t actively uploading you will still accumulate points which can be spent against upload credit. The best way to get points is to have 20 small Freeleech torrents uploading as that will maximise point generation while using the least disk space. It won’t be long and you’ll have enough to get your ratio back to 1.0. It is not necessary to seed everything to 1.0 just to seed for 14 days, that’ll fulfill any seed obligation.
My torrents are being so weird, I have downloaded like 100GB worth of shit but my ratio is at 6, while people are NOT leeching off me, it's odd.

Fuck you for putting me on all spectrums of the image.

I just don't have room for any more DVD cases.
PUSSY!

Can someone please explain pirates' obsession with Anora
AMELIE or Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (Amelie Poulain's fabulous fate) is considered one of the best French films. It's rated #111 on imdb's top 150 films ever. It's not a stretch to imagine its his/her favourite film. Imagine some Redditor's obsession with some anime girl. I have it on DVD, I've watched it, it's a fun film. If you go to the Wikipedia page for photobooths, it'll mention the film, it's that well-known.

Yeah, I'm still figuring this shit out and that genuinely never occurred to me. I just thought it was supposed to do something on its own.
300ish DVD cases is all I can handle, man. Especially when I've moved the disks themselves to binders. I do have visions for repurposing them in the future.

Now I'm confused, because I swear it was Anora being mentioned on r/piracy. Maybe they were confusing the 2001 film with the more recent one. Can't be bothered to go check because I got a browser extension to block me from using the site for a reason.

I doubt a movie from 2024 was the basis for her profile picture for decades on now.
I remember people mentioning Anora by name, so I think there was a game of telephone going on where someone mistook the two names and ran with it. I assumed it had something to do with some stance the director/actor(s) had on piracy or something thematic in the film. Nope. It was just a well-known user's pfp and Redditors got the movie it came from wrong. That's Reddit for ya.

I really miss the days when it was easy to find open FTP servers. A lot of universities had them, as well as individual professors on their personal university pages. I remember in the early 2010s, the Iran University of Science and Technology had an unsecured FTP server, and I downloaded a bunch of scanned math textbooks from there.

Now you can't even access FTP via browser anymore. What a rip.

I use IPTorrent for much of my stuff. I also use a seedbox in a random European country. Here's my process.
Flexget monitors my Trakt account and searches for new episodes of shows I want to watch in multiple torrent sites, but mostly IPTorrent. Once found the .torrents are auto-pushed to Transmission on the seedbox.

Additionally, stuff I want, usually older, I grab the torrent and run a script to send it to the seedbox.

A second copy of Flexget monitors Transmission and downloads any completed files. To clean-up anything over 10x ratio is deleted, anything over 4x and over 2 days old is deleted, anything over 2x and over 7 days old is deleted and then everything over 14 days.

What usually happens is popular stuff that the system found quickly hits 10x fast. Anything older that I find usually takes the full 2 weeks and never hits 2x.

Oddly, some really popular shows never seed though, I'm not sure why.

LMAO. Me too.

I do everything by hand because automation fucks everything up anyhow. You won't notice it for popslop but for something as niche (LOL) as One Punch Man, if you want subtitles in English, you're going to have to look manually. Do the automators download and look at the files yet, retrying if the match is bad? They did not when I used them.

So stock market speculation but for media sharing
If you think this, you'll get a real chuckle out of Orpheus Bonus Points. Share unpopular torrents and you get bonus points that you can use to buy personal freeleech on torrents. Naturally, I've gamed this to the point that I could get all my downloads free.

I really miss the days when it was easy to find open FTP servers.
Yeah, based, I miss the FTP days too.

The great thing about automation is you can make it do whatever you want... The bad thing about automation...

I'm sure Flexget could do it, but I usually just fix any screw-ups manually. I could probably make the download side do checks and then clear the downloaded flag in the scanner and blacklist the bad file so it tries again, but I haven't. Sometimes it grabs the first thing it finds and it's someone's spam copy of something else to pretend it's the thing you wanted, sometimes it's just a couple gigs of Windows malware.

I think you're confusing Anora with Amélie (2001).
he said pirate and that anora looks like a random gook, all i know is that the "pirates" (ie: reddit) are the ones with that retarded personality cult with fittranny and amélie on r/repackwatch, ops crackwatch.

looks more like you confused them, but that's the entire shtick with the girl, it's fittranny repacks and whoever is posting the image is probably a third worlder with internet speeds on Kbps instead of MB/s.

This sound test in particular is distressing. That thing is weird and gross and kinda cool.
I'm trying to navigate the folder, the root folder has some cool stuff, there's more buried stuff but there isn't much notes on it.

It's even got some that my cinema use(d), awesome. My headphones literally vibrated on my head, love these kinds of video's.
I wish I could find some of the stuff that they would play in movies before the show, the old actual film stuff that I can only have vague memories of that I can't even describe, stuff from 20+ years ago. In any case, the demos are fine but it's a bit of a waste for me since my sound system sucks so hard.

This is one of the GAYEST things I have ever heard and makes me even more satisfied paying for a usenet provider
I've been looking for the one of the left for a while now, thanks!

Still underwhelmed by the reason for their obsession.
It's not really about Amelie. They want to have an in-joke and feel like they're part of a community. If it's not Amelie it's other random memes about ISP letters and suchlike. Piracy doesn't actually lend itself well to creating a tight-knit social group so it's forced and kinda gay, particularly among redditors who don't have other friends and communities.

they basically want to stretch that entire warez groups thing and do what you said, turn it into a in-joke since they probably only read the oldy tyme NFO's and took it as gospel.

Invest in some. I got a blu-ray player with 5.1 Surround for less than a hundred bucks from someone in my town. I've been using it on the daily ever since. Which has been around, like, 3 years now.
