What if a big titty goth girl invites you over for Netflix & Chill and there's nothing to watch? You can wink at her, access your private server, and watch Serial Experiments Lain with subtitles. Works every time.
I'd rather decide on a title with her, them snag and watch that. 5 or 10 minutes then I can stream it off my seedbox at my choice of quality.

>"goth"
>Serial Experiments Lain

You sure that's not a troon?

I guess this is off topic, but that name has always pissed me off. I guess it's just because it translates poorly or something but that name fucking sucks. It sounds so stilted and unnatural in English.

"More like Serial Experiments Lame. My ass could shit out a better title, what were they thinking?!"

That does sound like it was poorly translated. There's a popular old strategy video game called Tactics Ogre and that title doesn't sound great either, even if ogres supposedly appear in it. I'm sure weebs could provide more examples of similar head-screatchers.

Serial Experiments Lain isn't poorly translated because the title is the exact same in Japan. It's just an Engrish-y title that's meant to sound weird and kind of nonsensical. According to the director, it's only solid meaning is referring to how they made both an anime and a PS1 game off the concept, which was a series of experimental media.

As for Tactics Ogre, it's just called that because it's meant to be the more tactical skirmish spin-off to Ogre Battle. And Ogre Battle is just called that because they ripped-off the name of a Queen song they thought sounded cool (actually, the full Japanese title is Legendary Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen). Though they try to justify it by having "ogre" be used figuratively in-game to describe the brutal, evil empire.

Ogre Battle makes sense, Tactics Ogre doesn't. Even Ogre Tactics would make me go "eeeehhh, I don't know about that". It's fine, I don't expect the Japanese to use English correctly.

Now forget about all that stupid shit and listen to Goblin Battle.
