Planetside General (1, 2, Arena)

PS1 was an amazing game and one of my favorites of all time. PS2...ehhhh. I tried it a couple times and it always left me cold. Then they started doing stupid shit like selling cosmetics and paint jobs that let players run around without readily-identifiable faction colors and armor, which is just retarded in a faction-based PvP game. There's apparently some project to do an emulated PS1 server, though I never looked too deeply into it to see how well it works.

In Planetside 1, many many many years ago, I was a lib pilot and some random dude I picked up was both gunners. We had something like 120 kills before we finally got downed. I still look back on this fondly.

Characters in this game are anonymous right? Like if you're SomeFaggot then people can't easily find out if you're SomeOtherFaggot right? Or what Steam account is tied to it?

As long as we're not playing Vanu sure. My Planetside account isn't linked to my steam at all, so I don't know if there'd be any way to tell through that, but just in game there isn't any way to connect characters on the same account to each other unless you tell anyone.
 
I played this game in a goon outfit as NC a long, long time ago. All I remember is they were always super ass mad in Vent about some dude named Buzzcut Psycho in the TR.

I also crashed a Liberator full of them on purpose before I quit because they were fucking annoying, and a good 75% would simp anytime a girl joined the game.

This has been my PS2 story. Do people still play this?

Planetside 2 made me a totalbiscuit ayylog. His shilling actually got me hyped. I'm amazed it's still getting content to this day.
 
Ironically, I've been thinking of re-downloading this game again but no one I know wants to go back to it.
 
Honestly, every time I go into Planetside 2, I have the issue of dumping half a chaingun 'mag' into someone, succesfully, mind, according to the hit-markers, them turning around and causally blowing me away with a pistol.

'git gud' I know, but honestly, either the TR has nerf bullets in their guns, or my legendarily shitty luck (in games) continues and I run into a hacker a session. Which, considering it's a free game...

Feels like they're playing Halo, and I'm playing Syphon Filter or some shit.

The hard thing is that it's impossible to really enjoy the game fully without a couple friends to help. I make the best of it solo dolo but the total lack of comms sucks.

I'd try to organize something but
1) I tend to commit to something like that on the fly and then get bored within a week, and
2) All the players would be Americans and I don't know if I want to play with 100 ping. I suppose if I'm mostly flying and doing SL stuff it won't matter too much.

It's a 2x XP weekend so maybe now would be the right time to try and get people onboard, but I still don't have my gaming shit set up comfy. maybe by next month.

PS account is tied to email, but ingame names are character names AFAIK.

I haven't played this game in fucking years, it was fun when I did play though. As long as you play NC or TR then you're alright in my book.

lol my buddy got the high score of 1337 kills in a day (at one time circa 2004?ish) camping in front of a spawn in a MAX of some type and having his buddies not finish capturing the base. (Planetside 1 for reference sorry)
