Because most of the people who watch my podcast are not forum users or are just lurkers. It's a good way to keep in touch. I asked for "the worst popular anime" and "the worst character from that anime" to arrive at the one I picked for Satan, after he made this thread.
For all the complaining things aren't like they used to be, admins fucking around with someone's username/avatar during a chimpout is definitely one of the things that used to be more common.
This is the great problem I face in dealing with politisperging: I am very sympathetic to the idea of wanting to remove political slant from lolcow boards. This idea that I'm actively propping up politics falls flat when you look at my own post activity in 2020.

I'm most active in boards that are about the forum, Internet drama, Internet law, technology in general, and the girlcow boards because they're really funny. I've posted more about Ralph and his nebulous drama than I have A&H combined. I've been more active in a board that's only existed two months and is about clowns in space than I have been in the articles board.
It is very likely this has to do with my extreme exhaustion with politics in general. I don't get any dopamine from looking at the decay of the world and I actively avoid seeing it. I pay attention to as little as I have to: namely, political events which impact the forum's health.
I've thought about this a lot, and I've not come up with any productive solution. I do not believe that simply trying to obliterate political discussion will lead to a healthy or productive result. After sitting on it for literal years now, I've come to a conclusion that the old Internet simply does not exist. It's not possible to have a community that is like the old Kiwi Farms. Especially not one this big. The old Kiwi Farms existed, it thrived, and it evolved.
There's some things I don't like about the forum as it exists, but what I don't like is not much larger than the portion of the site I didn't like in the past. In 2013, we were cruel to the users of the CWC board, and people relentlessly ridiculed a single user of the forum behind his back for years (from which, we still have the

emoticon) and he never knew until years later. In 2014, the forum hated the people in Andrew Dobson's thread. In 2015, there was Deagle Nation. In 2016, election politics. Every year, there was a 'bad' part of the site that people hated.
I think everybody is now somewhat exhausted by politics and the climate of the world, in the same way I am exhausted when I see things I like corrupted by trannies. I tried playing Dwarf Fortress recently and discovered the developer had abandoned it earlier this year for a new graphical version which will never come out, but had added tranny dwarfs to the game before doing so (while leaving a ton of game breaking bugs in). So, naturally, dissatisfied by the political bent of those things, I blame the people at the helm.
Old user X is disenchanted with the site for whatever reason, blames me, and then slowly that seethe builds to a breaking point that, from the outside, is awkward and hard to understand ("null doesn't like anime!"). There are posts by OP where he's saying I'm tolerating this politization simply because it's "my politics", when I don't care. I've accepted my role in the global order (none at all, completely helpless to impact the flow of time and the direction of history) and I've detached myself emotionally from what is going on. I'll probably be forced to get a COVID-19 vaccine to get residency where I'm living, and I'll probably do it, whereas in the past I would have never tolerated such a thing.
There's now a level of disconnect. When 3 mods got into a fight this year I had no idea what was happening, had to deal with it for days, lost three mods in the process, and at this point I don't even remember what happened. I don't even care. People who cause this sort of problem for my site and my life aren't welcome in either. I don't have the skills to deal with interpersonal conflict and the people who did left some time ago.
My MO has been to try and promote people willing to be positive impacts on the site to enable them to be the change they want to see, but these days I don't see those people. Was OP someone who really wanted to improve the site? I don't think so. That's the same with a lot of old users. They are as angry as they are clueless to a remedy. I can't enable angry people to punish arbitrary users. That's not what helps. It's just a good way to piss off people who just want a place to talk about shit they can't anywhere else unmolested.
I don't enjoy seeing people I know and like upset, but I'm not going to contort to appease them either. If the new users are the ones who are going to try and find meaning and enjoyment in the community, then then are the rightful heirs to inherit it.
