I made my Poast account late last year when I heard they were The Based Instance and wanted an alt for my KFCC account - if I had known how prominent loli was on it I would have gone with something else, lol.

I will say though, props to Graf for at least heavily promoting fediverse.express so people don't give up on the Fediverse entirely when they get tired of his pedoshit.

I also have a Poast, and I haven't noticed very much pedoshit on it. To be fair though, I don't use the site for much else besides following Josh and Metokur and making jokes that Twitter won't let me make.

However since then, the old users of poa.st have been very unfriendly to anyone with a September 2022 join date. I think Graf is going to have some tough days ahead of him. Also I have been thinking about setting up an instance myself actually for a while now but I've not been motivated and it's proved to be an unduly obnoxious process. I have an absolute beast of a dedicated server for other projects that could definitely host an instance or two plus a couple of pretty cute vanity domain names, but I'm still messing about with the mastodon configuration, it doesn't seem to like being behind Cloudflare very much which is extremely annoying although I know that plenty of instances are. This is not helped by the software being written in tranny languages that I don't understand (Ruby for mastodon and I think Erlang for Pleroma) and just seemingly being overly cute with a lot of shit.

I'm aware that it's painlessly one-click on Linode(?) but I'm not paying extra when I have my own hardware that I can control fully and not have to worry about the bullshit. If anyone can help guide through this process pls drop a PM. If I get something nice going I'd allow friends to join, low key and small enough rules wouldn't really be necessary just something along the lines of don't be an asshole and no porn, "doxing" fine within reason.

It must no longer be a place for giving banned people a voice, otherwise he would not ban anyone, or allow anyone to be banned, save for the most serious and most illegal of circumstances. How quickly the candle burns out. It was barely even a flame. All the other autism is just so much white noise to me when compared with this. He really has to come out and clarify this, I think. It will dictate everything going forward. If he doesn't address it now, then he will regret it in the future.

graf is pretty clear that he's not trying to make some single point of failure for free speech, and is instead trying to promote the Fediverse in general as a technical measure to make censorship difficult. Poast will rarely defederate you except for "dox" or (ironically considering complaints here) endorsing pedophilia. The "dox" rule is really expansive by KF standards, though.

If you insist on using someone else's instance, the instance you want exists, is here, and is federated with Poast.
