I'm surprised we don't have a dedicated thread for this genre yet.

I've recently gotten around to replaying The Longest Journey, as well as playing Syberia for the first time. So many classic games of this genre like Monkey Island, King's Quest, Grim Fandango, Sam & Max are among my favorites.

What are some good ones you don't see discussed as often? What are your favorites?

Those posted here are all fantastic, and I want to add "Chronicle of Innsmouth". Its a recent game with retro "Monkey Island" - graphics.
I think its made by one person, so its sometimes notchy. But I love it. Its as you can assume Lovecraftian.

Good suggestion, I'll see if it's good since Lovecraftian-inspired Quake like games are my forte. On another note, why does the guy who own/make the website (assuming it's the same dev) not make it 90s esque? really a lost opportunity there.

What’s that monkey one that everyone would play on the school computers on ninjakiwi

I've tried to get into this genre and while I have a few under my belt I've not played all the ones I want to play yet.

The trouble is I'm not great at the puzzles and having to check a guide is just lame.

But so far I've beaten Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken, Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis, Myst, Full Throttle, Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded and Thimbleweed Park.

There's more that I've played but not beaten like Sam and Max, Day of The Tentacle and Grim Fandango.

Full Throttle.

I also tried Deponia 1, but the "le zany random" item combinations and locations made me want to kill myself. The whole fucking Myst series makes more sense.

Full Throttle is really great, I don't think I ever had to use a guide because the puzzles are so well designed.

I wish the sequel hadn't been canceled and wish we could still get a sequel, as it'd be a perfect setting for an open world game.

No idea. Its not really expensive though, and there is even a part 2 in work, which is inspired by mountains of madness.
Can you tell me some of the Quake ones please?

Despite their faults I am very nostalgic for point and click games. Recently I just bought and beat a game called Earthworms on the eShop the other day. It was on sale for a penny and I guess I got my money's worth.

Honestly you probably heard of Dusk, that's a good as fuck one, there's also 'DEEP' which is one that's a whole lotta inspired, especially in the Lovecraftian way, there's also Darkest Dungeon, not entirely Quake inspired, but has a heavy dose of Point and Click and Lovecraft.

There's a whole lot of 'em, but there's the ones that I've personally played that I assume would pique your interest.

I'm not great at the puzzles in these games, and some make it very difficult - the first Discworld game I remember being a constant slog of combining items in your inventory in the random hope that two would suddenly make something you needed. Plus it let you get copies of everything even after you'd used them for their purpose, so your items numbered 50 or so by the end.

Much as I loved early LucasArts and Sierra games, some of them were punishing. Letting you get to a point where you couldn't win but were still playing, and the random death encounters, were particular nightmares from Sierra.

So while I really liked Day of the Tentacle and Sam and Max and all the quests, be they Space, Police, King's or Larry, my favourites would have to be The Colonel's Bequest, and especially Quest For Glory and The Secret of Monkey Island. Both are exactly what they needed to be as games, for me.
