So I was on a road trip recently and in those long drives, I was thinking that there's a lot of stuff that has been hijacked for specific topics by specific people. There's catchphrases like "rape culture" (which I believe was originally referring to sodomy in prisons) but there are also whole topics that aren't inherently bad and can actually be really interesting when done right, but rarely are.

"Strong women" - This is politically motivated Hillary Clinton and RBG worship, but who doesn't admire "Waffle House Wendy"? That woman could easily trounce either of them in a fair fight.

"Going back to our roots" - Used in video games a lot, in THEORY what this should mean is stripping back the bloat from sequels and implementing "best of" features, in actuality it's a bullshit sequel farmed out to third-worlders.

Anything related to black people - If you only listened to media and pop culture, any famous black person (maybe except for George Washington Carver) is a political activist and/or a criminal*. Surprisingly this is not the case.

There's a lot more out there, but those are what I can think of off the cuff.

* or "criminal-adjacent" people like rappers.

Not being able to use the word "confederacy" is actually really annoying. I'd describe the EU as a confederacy, as in, a group of loosely aligned states with minimal overarching government. But alas, the confederate states of America ruined a perfectly good word.

Triggered. It actually means something when you have real PTSD from combat or other traumatic experiences. It doesn't mean "I have a bad feels because you tweeted means at me".

You are supposed to try and work through your triggers so you can lead as normal a life as possible. Not cower in the corner because someone invalidated your pronouns online.

Salt/salty used to be some shit you'd hear in the ghetto thrown about by hood rats then fucking no lifer incels playing cod found out about it.

Not really poisoned topics per se but poisoned words. I automatically question anyone who says "heck", "folks", or "y'all" especially if they are not from the south.

Vibe. Shade. Ironic. Beef. Grind. Problematic.

In fact, it would seem tard zombies normies have a bad habit of taking any random noun, verb, or adjective and corrupting them to score points with other normies or twisting them to serve their political agenda.
If it weren't for that last one I'd think you just had a problem with ebonics.

"Malding"

I automatically associate it with worthless twitchniggers and youtubers on a similar level of homosexuality.

Diversity - Typically readers and viewers want a cast to be full of people with different upbringings, personalities, backgrounds, and ideologies. It also used to make me think of colorful marine life. Now diversity is brought up in every discussion about modern media that includes poorly-written characters.

Food deserts.

It sounds like something dire and drastic, but what it really means is there aren't any good supermarkets in the hood. You can drive a few minutes in any direction and find a grocery store in the US. If you can't, you probably need to move. If you can't, then stop shoplifting from your local supermarket and maybe they can afford to stay open.

A beloved talking point of the type of people who think everything is a crisis and find joy in suffering.
