and next year sun and moon will be a decade old
What Gamefreak was able to do over the last decade:
*ULTRA CHANGES
*Pokemon LEGPiss
*Several major leaks which pretty much give us everything we needed, or wanted to know about games that matter
*Dexit
*Sword and Shield
*Paid DLC
*Legends Arceus, probably the only decent new game in years
*Shitty, broken DP remakes
*Scarlet/Violet(paid tech demo)
*More useless DLC
*A bunch of mobile games nobody cares about, including gacha slop
*DEI up the ass

Yeah, I'm thinking there is a reason people usually talk about the older games more fondly than the newer ones.

Diamond and pearl are 19
This one messes me up the most. I have more hours in Ruby, but Diamond has a special place in my heart. So many more people had DP because the DS sold like umbrellas on a rainy day, so for once I had a small community of people to play with at my school. I still remember doing link battles and learning about EVs/IVs (cursed knowledge for a young lad), hanging out in the underground, battle tower multis with my friends, competing to get the "best" trades off GTS... it definitely was the most active my friends and my school ever was with Pokémon. I even remember the urban legends that we had. Like dusk balls working best at exactly midnight is one that sticks out in my mind still.

That brings me to maybe a good question for you all; which generation was the most social one for you?

Edit: That reminds me, I really hope they keep the little ping sound effect from seeing a shiny that they had in PLA. I would have completely missed this Luxray if that sounds wasn't there and I know I missed a few shinies in SV because of that sound not being there.
Seriously, why did they get rid of that?!
I love hearing it, and just feeling that rush of, "did I just hear that?" I'll even use the screen record feature on the switch to review if it was a real shiny ping, or just me mishearing. And if it's real, I like the search afterward!

Gen I, as far as actually playing the game, technically this current Gen regarding discussion. By ‘99 Pokémania had already waned, which also coincided with coincided with me simply not having kids my age around anymore. Despite moving into town, into a neighborhood where all the parents were around the same age as mine, I was still 3-5 years older than any of the other kids; and eternity when you’re nine.

I only interacted with people IRL in middle school with Gen1 because that still was popular at the time. My classmates still were trading for version exclusives and playing the TCG at lunch time. When Gen2 came out, that's when people fell out of Pokemon and went onto whatever the latest trend was.

Gen6 was the one where I was online the most. Triple battles were still a thing and the ones I had the most fun with (even though Mat Block Greninja was fucking EVERYWHERE), moreso with the ubers especially when Primal Groundon came out.

I wonder what Gamefreak meant by having the wigger antifa analogue wind up being useful idiots for some evil NGO?
wayward young men are easily manipulated by surrogate parental figures. I also don't think Skull is an analogue to antifa, they're more like a baby form of team rocket who just fuck shit up for fun and camaraderie between members. Guzma being a nepobaby is the only part of their story i don't like.

Didn't Guzma fail his island challenge, and his dad regularly beat the shit out of him? Isn't that the opposite of a nepobaby? I'm sorry if I've missed/forgotten some lore.

His dad being abusive and him being bad at what he wanted to do doesn't mean he didn't come from a well-off family. His dad pushed him to be a golfer (rich man sport, imo) and Guzma even had a few trophies for it but he didn't enjoy it. I guess I meant that Guzma coming from a family with money clashes with his rough-and-tough demeanor and the sort of person he *wants* to be, not that he got to where he is through his family connections and nepotism. It sort of reminds me of hippies in the 70s being mostly upper middle class and pretending to be dirty hippies. Guzma *could* in theory, just leave his little gang and go back to his family's house and be just fine, It sucks for the people who came to rely on being in Team Skull for a sense of belonging when it dissolves (and Guzma washes off his fake tattoos lmao).

Oh man do I feel that.
I feel it every time that I turn on the DS and it doesn't recognize the cartridge, and I have to turn it off and on a few more times, wondering if this is the time when it just never gets recognized again.
Every time that the game freezes unexpectedly, inexplicably, and all I can do is restart.
Every time that I see the game clock, which randomly went from 919 hours down to 850 one day, and I'm forced to wonder just how close this little game card is to death. But I still can't bring myself to transfer everything out and give up on it.

There is a piece of hardware you can use to connect NDS and 3DS carts so you can plug them in and export/import data from the cartridge, including savefiles. Sadly, I don't know who sells these anymore, I know if you bought an Action Replay back in the day you could have one of those included. I would back up everything if I were you, altho I know it will take a while if you're doing this manually with another cart. If you have another DS and a flashcart with a ROM of another game, at least it's doable, altho you might need several games worth of PCs if you don't want overcrowding and spread them around.

He doesn't even need that. Just inserting his cart onto simple modded 3DS can extract his cartridge's .sav file for preservation and to be used on emulators. I did it with my Soulsilver. I didn't wanna mention it since I assumed he wouldn't be interested for sentimental reasons.

That's a solution too, if you have a jainbroken 3DS. Still, sentimentality or not, the time to back these save files would be now. I'm using my old carts too but I always back them up regularly, just in case.

That's team Star, the shittiest "organization" in any Pokemon game. At least other badguy organizations were actually threatening in their respective games.

Yeah, I'm thinking there is a reason people usually talk about the older games more fondly than the newer ones.
It's mostly the first 3 or 4 games, realistically RBY or RSE (And probably GSC's remake).
