Well the epilogue of Sword turned out to be an watered down Delta Episode; and I loved how that the game went "Congratulations! You are now the Champion, now explore the rest of the Galar Region!" despite the fact that there's hardly anything else in it, at this point. Sure, there's the side quest for the box legendary, the DLCs, and the Battle Tower; but I think they were too busy designing the Wild Area to throw in an hidden cavern or two. But it isn't without it's good moments, like Leon commenting that you've brought that energy monster to the prize fight.


Hopefully, Scarlet & Violet doesn't shit the bed, but you never know, nowadays.

Apparently Pokemon Puzzle League got added to the N64 on Switch options. It's one of the first time I have been sorely tempted to upgrade because that was the first game I got with my N64 as a kid and I played the hell out of it. Wouldn't mind indulging in a little nostalgia.

Other issues with the games aside, these new evolutions better not be region exclusives again. If they're going to keep making region exclusive evolutions they should at least give you a method to evolve old mon into their regional evolutions. Otherwise it just feels like they're too scared of giving old mon with no prior evolutions legit evolutions out of fear of bad feedback or "damaging" their brand recognition or causing some stupid evolite abuse. Just go all in with the evolutions and get rid of evolite or change some pre-exisisting stats if its going to be that much of an issue.

And even moreso, since Game Freak loves to remove features in future games, to "keep them fresh". They already removed Contests, Mega Evolution, Primal Reversion, Z-Moves, the Battle Frontier, and about half of the National Dex on Sword & Shield's launch, so surely it would be easy for them to remove just the Eviolite.

Would even nerfing the Eviolite (i.e. 50% -> 25%) make a difference at all, or no?

It’ll definitely be the latter for a few reasons...

• Sales for enhanced versions have never been higher than their base games. USUM sold 9.09 million copies while SM sold 16.27 million copies and for older entries (BW’s 15.47 million vs. BW2’s 8.52 million, DP’s 17.67 million vs. 7.6 million, RS’s 16.22 million vs. Emerald’s 7.06 million, etc.). Remakes tends to do better but they‘re still not as high as a main game’s sales.
• At a retail level it’s easier for Nintendo and The Pokémon Company to convince a consumer into buying a base game at $59.99 and a DLC pack at $29.99 later down the line rather than convincing them to buy two new games being sold for $59.99 at two (or three if we’re also factoring in remakes) different period’s within a Generation’s lifetime.
• At a competitive level it’s easier for VGC players to keep up on sanctioned tournaments if the main game used stays the the same throughout a Generation’s lifetime, the DLC is optional (with DLC’s items, moves, and Pokémon kept accessible via trades if the player chooses to not buy it), and eligibility as far as keeping the game up-to-date done via ”mandatory” updates.

I don't think that Eviolite is the reason that GF hasn't added new evolutions before Legends. It's because GF and Nintendo have an obsession with each game having a hook and new evolutions were Generation 4's hook in the modern series. Gen 5 made sense not to have new evos since its hook was having no old Pokemon in game and Gen 6 had Megas instead of actual new evos.

Eviolite in general got way worse in Generation 8 since Knock Off is everywhere with few Pokemon to absorb it with items that are immune like Mega Stones. Only Zacian Crowned, Zamazenta Crowned, and Silvally in SS. As for Pokemon that Eviolite really help:

• Porygon 2 is a better Trick Room supporter than Porygon Z with or without Eviolite, but does seriously benefit from it. Mainly they're both two of the few non-Psychic TR options and that's their appeal
• Dusknoir is irrelevant competitively but Eviolite Dusclops has a niche as an absolute tank and another non-Psychic TR setter. Knock Off weakness sucks though
• Chansey and Clefairy are decent, but give up the offensive presence of their evolutions and become absolutely useless if they get hit with Knock Off

If Eviolite is the reason for not getting new evolutions it's not a good one since it only seriously helps defensive Pokemon and is so vulnerable to Knock Off. Definitely need some new Evos, especially some that could incorporate their now cut Mega abilities like Kangaskhan and Pinsir. Even if Eviolite Kangaskhan would be better than an evo, it still means we get a fun new Pokemon to play with on ladder either way.
