So it looks like Toxic will be a Move Tutor move, but word is going out that it will be limited to Poison-types only, similar to BDSP. And I'm not sure what the cost will be for these Move Tutors, whether it's BP, or some other currency.

GF appears to have carried over the BDSP (even though it was due to how ILCA programmed that game) and PLA clauses, in regards to movesets.
Dear God, this is real shitty of them to do. Hopefully enough people learn of this before they transfer over their favs into the game just to find out too late their movesets get fucked.

We’ve got more info…
While you can get most species before the post-game, Roaring Moon and Iron Valiant can only be found after. Paradox Pokémon are also in the No Egg Discovered Group alongside most Legendaries and the Ultra Beasts.
They aren’t Shiny Locked so hunting for a Shiny deer, sabertooth cat, snail, and goldfish is possible.
Hyper Training has had its minimum level dropped, you can now Hyper Train Pokémon at Level 50 or higher.

SWSH’s Move Tutors were restricted to the DLC outside of Grass/Fire/Water Pledge, the Grass/Fire/Water Hyper Beams, Draco Meteor, and Steel Beam so it’s probably the same case here unless you can breed them onto said ‘mons as well.

So Scald is effectively removed from the game now.
To be fair to Scald there’s a Water-type move being introduced in SV that does damage and drops the target’s attack. It’s also worth noting that the loss of Scald is in large part due to Stall ‘mons like Toxapex abusing the shit out of it.

As for the tranfer-induced move loss it’s not that bad in practice. Bulbapedia (yes, I know it’s a site run by a weirdo and is basically maintained by an asylum) has an explanation on how it works.
Depositing any Pokémon into HOME for the first time will assign it a HOME tracker value, a 64-bit number unique to it that is used to detect clones and other hacked Pokémon. (For example, a Pokémon hacked to have a random tracker value can be detected as HOME will not remember having assigned this value in the past.) This tracker value is stored with the Pokémon and stays the same even if (e.g.) the Pokémon is withdrawn and traded offline to another player.

As of v2.0.0, the tracker value is also used to keep track of data that is not transferred between games and must be stored server-side, such as:

  • A Pokémon's three movesets (between Sword and Shield, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Legends: Arceus)
  • Met location and egg hatch location (since none of the three sets of games share location index numbers)
  • Gigantamax Factor, Technical Record flags, Sociability, effort levels, Alpha flag, and Zisu's Move Tutor moves and Move Mastery flags
For example, the Alpha Pokemon flag is not stored anywhere in the Pokémon data of Sword/Shield or Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. If a Pokémon from Pokémon Legends: Arceus is transferred to one of these games and back, it must keep its Alpha flag. This is done by HOME associating that flag with that Pokémon's HOME tracker value. (The tracker value is also used for the once-per-save-file restriction on newly depositing certain Legendary/Mythical Pokémon from Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. A Pokémon is being newly deposited if it does not have a HOME tracker value.)

Effectively, HOME as of v2.0.0 keeps track of three sets of incompatible data for each Pokémon; however, only one set of data will be displayed when a Pokémon's summary is viewed in HOME. For example, the Legends: Arceus set of data will display significantly different stats and no Ability compared to the other two sets of data (even though the Ability is internally remembered by Legends: Arceus and is not game-specific data). On the Nintendo Switch version, only the Sword/Shield set of data will be displayed for all Pokémon unless the application is currently connected to Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl or Legends: Arceus. The type of Poké Ball shown will change depending on which set of data is being displayed, though the origin mark will always be correct. On the mobile version, the set of data displayed for a Pokémon is picked depending on the last game it was previously in (or Sword/Shield by default if that Pokémon has never been in a Generation VIII game). The type of Poké Ball shown will always be correct.[

If HOME attempts to display (for example) the Sword/Shield set of data for a Pokémon incompatible with Sword/Shield, the results vary depending on version. On the mobile version of HOME, this can only happen if a Pokémon incompatible with Sword/Shield is transferred from Bank or GO, and the app will display the stats and moveset as they last were in Bank (or as determined by GO Transporter). On the Nintendo Switch version before v2.0.0, the application behaved identically to the mobile version. On the Nintendo Switch version from v2.0.0 onward, the app will not display any stats or moves for incompatible Pokémon.
So basically when you deposit a Pokémon into HOME it records the moveset it has in that specific set of games and, if you transfer it to a new set of games, it’ll give the Pokémon its default learnset from that set of games (up to its current level) since there’s no data assigned to that Pokémon for that specific game you’re transferring it to

And yeah, it sucks that certain Event Pokémon will lose any non-standard attacks they may have but we’ve seen how nasty some Pokémon can get if they’re allowed to keep their Event moves.

I think they end not making designs that are close to well-spread fakemon, and that covers A LOT of cool things. Probably anything in Nintendo-C&D'd games is in "do not copy by accident!" list.

All of the Pokédex artwork has been compiled, so if you wanted a better look at any of the new Pokémon, this is a good opportunity: https://drive.google.com/drive/mobile/folders/180Qp0wrGEwomjoU78vFMDJTEkI42Bmql?usp=sharing

Personally, I'm happy to finally see Glimmora in full.

EDIT: It's my lucky day, apparently. It looks even cooler in motion than I was imagining.

I came back just to point out its kinda shifty that scald is volcanion's signature move now.. when it already has Steam Eruption.
Toxapex used Scald!
Those three words are why they limited Scald. Never mind that VGC is only in doubles.
Also, the joke about Rock Head Aerodactyl getting no recoil moves besides Take Down will continue. Imagine spending a lot of time breeding a pokemon only to have it get nerfed into the dirt by that transfer. I can understand limiting event moves, but someone that bred something from RSE should be able to transfer it to SV unmolested.

Until now, I didn't know that China actually banned time travel themes in media, but given how it can be used (i.e. someone going to the past to witness the Great Leap Forward, the Chinese Cultural Revolution, and the Tiannemen Square Massacre), I can see why the CCP would ban that.
I am still pretty surprised by the fac that 21 and Over got a different starting and ending in Red China!

So for those of you playing the leaked rom, how is performance? I can live with an ugly game, but some early leakers said the game runs like ass too. Anyone able to corroborate?

leakers can be a bit unreliable, especially those playing on emulators. it can be hard to tell where the emulator's problems end and the game's problems begin.

From what we've heard, the performance can be a bit iffy according to reviewers who did the initial playtest. With that said, performance issues were apparently fewer to none with japanese reviewers, which might mean the two groups got slightly different versions and there was a substantive update to performance that hadn't been localised by that point.

Well it’s the week of release, come Monday/Tuesday I’ll be paying attention to my local mom-and-pop game stores‘ social media pages to see if they’ll be breaking street date again.

I’ve read that it’s partially due to the 1.0.1 patch that was pushed out recently, it fixes some of the issues that are present in the earlier demos.

Well I’ve been playing through the leaked ROM and possible emulation-related jankiness aside, this is easily the best post-3D Pokémon game… not that that’s saying much. But it’s at least the first 3D game that actually justifies it.

Big negatives so far are:
- World graphics vary from passable to god-awful depending on the area, which… isn’t a great thing for an open-world game. Breath of the Wild came out in 2017, this game has no excuse.
- Basically no outfit customization, playing dress-up with my character was pretty much the only fun part of Gen 8 so it kinda sucks that you’re stuck between 4 boring school uniforms in this game
- Animations are obnoxiously slow, if there’s an option to change this I haven’t found it. Pokémon battles even against tall grass fodder take friggin forever thanks to this. It’s possible this is an emulation issue, but I’m not counting on it.
- Not really a fan of the human designs, they’re really uncanny valley and lean too “realistic” for my liking. Pokémon is better with more animesque/cartoony character designs.

Main positives:
- THE biggest issue with SwSh, the awful shallow linear map design, has been completely reversed.
- New encounter/catch/auto battle mechanics are great, level-grinding is no longer a boring slog but something that just happens semi-passively as you explore new areas,
- The prospect of having 3 different quest lines actually makes me excited to play a new Pokémon game for the first time in a long time. Whether it delivers on those expectations we’ll have to see.

This game definitely isn’t gonna be perfect, the graphics can be REALLY rough at times and there’s no excuse for that in 2022, but it’s a huge step in the right direction after the massive disappointment of Sword and Shield.
