Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Yeah I was kind of wondering about that too tbh.

I think making protagonists this bland will ultimately backfire on them because of how much harder it is for the memers and coomer fan artists to have interest in them. Regardless of the people who draw them aged up or not, fan art and content of the protagonists is something that usually drives the hype train, and I've seen almost no one who is excited for these games make any content or memes about these bland blank slates.
I doubt that as the main appeal with the player characters these days is how customizable they are.

They're blank slates for us to shape however we want.

I disagree. Pokemon autists love the protagonists. Even super recent people got very excited for Lucas and Dawn's ancestors and got super excited and autistic about family lore in Legends Arceus.

Sure, but Dawn and Lucas were established characters prior to Legends and that game was making references to a ton of characters throughout the franchise.

Not to mention that the playable protagonist for that game was also a customizable blank slate.

They were not bland, boring, and soulless looking though.

Sure in terms of being blank slates, they may have been closer to Gen 9, but they still could and have been loved by fans.

We still don't know if Gen 9's protagonists even have a freaking name yet.

I absolutely hate the revealed character/gym leader/rival designs. They're all so ugly and the artstyle doesn't save them.

I don't even have faith there'll be decent customisation options since the English trailer just keeps throwing black protagonist and black hair styles in. Barely any decent clothes have been shown.

Brown Wooper is pretty cute though and Cetitan is love so hopefully the new mons will continue to be cool.

some of the leaks seem accurate, crystal shit, femboi gym leader, Wooper, so I'm really hoping for long Girafarig.

Yeah I really miss Pokemon regions being based in Japan. In fact Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee and BDSP although based on existing regions still kept the same vibe when it came to characters, the Let's Go Games could've stayed from that but they didn't.

Orre and Unova were fortunate in the time they got released in, western society is too cucked for me to want regions based on it anymore. On top of all that Game Freak does wrong, they definitely reflect the cultural and social aspects of the regions fairly accurate to the era they release the game in.
I don’t recall any “woke” western pandering in gen v but yet again it was the last gen before Game Freak started releasing the games worldwide simultaneously.

"no characters that resonate with my dick", and that's what children game design should be about.

Modern Gamefreak thinks kids are so retarded that they can't memorize the type interactions and need to be told if moves are effective or not.
Modern Pokemon is literally designed for spackers.
You say that as if some of types beyond fire, grass and water have obvious weaknesses and resistances.

How is the average kid suppose know what Dark types are weak to and strong against? Or dragon types? Or Psychic types? Why do you think the starter trio is always grass, fire and water?

I figured that shit out when I was a dumb 8-year old, they can too. Literally just pay attention to the attacks being used and the message that tells you if it was super effective or not. It's not a matter of needing to logically deduce what would be good against what, just throw shit at the wall and memorize the outcomes.

Kids these days would fucking hate Megaman if they find Pokemon types hard.

I'm two pages late but on the topic of main character designs: think the last male design I truly liked was the gen 3 protagonist, hilbert from BW was alright, gen 6 and gen 7 felt too generic and samey for my taste, guess gen 8 is fine and lastly I don't like either of the gen 9 designs. Sometimes it feels like all the effort goes into the design of the female trainer.

Tbh I never thought of minimalist UIs being the realm of mobile games. On that topic, remember the bitching from ubishit devs about elden ring's UI and everyone clowning on them? I didn't truly appreciate minimal UIs until I finished the game and went back to FF14 and pso2 and my god, the amount of shit on screen began bothering the ever living shit out of me.
Edit: I am an idiot, you guys meant minimalistic, not minimal
I wonder if the UI elements are placeholders, they look way too simple
I liked the gen 2 and 3 protagonist's design but I have to wonder why they made 3's beanie look like hair instead of just making it his actual hair. Hilbert looks like a better version of Red to me. 6 just felt like a knockoff of Hilbert, and 7 looks like a tropical version of the gen 6 guy (although I like prisoner vibe he's got going).

Its the same issue in the Dragon Quest games since IX with each new protagonist looking duller when compared to their predecessor, although you could argue that VII's was dull too it kind of fits with his character considering he was just a lowly fisherman's son, and VIII's at least had a memorable outfit.

What site is this anyway?
That's why I said Unova was fortunate in the time it got released.
Unpopular opinion, but I think BW had the best story out of all the games, and the implications and connections between Ghetsis, N, Zoroark and the whole underwater ruins were very interesting. As well as the whole two kings mythology.

I used to always struggle with the old physical types because they're not always as obvious as "fire burn grass." Why does Bug resist Ground? Why does Steel resist Dragon? Why does Ground resist Rock? Why is Ghost effective against Ghost but Fighting is neutral to Fighting? Why would a 10 year old remember any of this shit?
