I have like 600+ hours in my ultra game compared to about 250 hours in my Sun game, and 150+ of those hours is just grind for Battle Tree and the battles within it.
you scare me
I see some people here we're shit-talking ORAS, I kinda want to fedpost at the moment because that shit was my jam in middle school.
it was once my jam too but after I played the originals there was no going back
it's a perfectly serviceable game, I just find it inferior to the original three in many important aspects and would not recommend it to anyone who's played them
Original Ruby and Sapphire, on the other hand, I don't see why you would ever play them. Even if you have nostalgia for them, they lack technical improvements and are buggier than Emerald and FRLG.
gonna be honest, I personally do it because they're kind of fun to break. The Pickup trick doesn't work in Emerald and that, combined with the lack of phys/spec split, makes them really cheesy fun if you're in the right mood for it. I also prefer some minor aspects like the font and Brendan's design, but those are so incredibly unimportant to most of the game that they aren't by any means selling points.
Also, I like quite a few of the gen 3 Pokémon that're unobtainable in Emerald. Roselia, Lunatone, Medicham, all impossible to catch in Emerald for bullshit reasons. I miss 'em.

For a final reason: fuck Wallace. He's a fine enough gym leader but a Champion he is not.
I will never fucking get why they made it impossible to get the version exclusives in-game without trading in the third versions. Its literal nonsensical thinking on their part, as the third versions usually allowed you to at least catch both versions' respective legendaries.
MONEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
For example:
I'm pretty sure you could get it in the GC games, along with Roselia who also wasn't available in Emerald among others.
Correct! But
only XD: Gale of Darkness!
If you had the wrong Gamecube game, you were shit out of luck. If you didn't have either Ruby or Sapphire, you were shit out of luck.
Gen 3 specifically is a hilariously thought-through
machine that systematically locks certain Pokémon behind certain games. Almost without fail, at least two or three Pokémon will be exclusive to one game in the generation with few exceptions. Hoenn has a lot of new mon crowding out the old ones so they made remakes of the old ones to give access to specifically Kanto 'mons. But uh-oh, Masuda was retarded and decided to only let you use the original 151 in those remakes! Not even new evolutions introduced in 2 and 3,
only their unevolved forms! So now they need to make another new game to contain all the Johto mon, which is what Colosseum ended up being, but oops that misses out on some mythicals so now they have to go and make a
physical disk to contain older mythicals for people who missed out on the initial events.
It's ridiculous, and probably one of the only generations where you can legitimately obtain each and every single Pokémon in the entire generation's Pokedex
within that generation without needing to be at the right place at the right time for myhtical events EDIT:
I forgot you can't get the Old Sea Map or Aurora Ticket legitimately without events in gen 3
384/386 is a pretty good track record compared to most generations though. It's quite the undertaking and pretty painful to do, but it's rather rewarding by the end of it and great for preservation.
You can't get this kind of shit with any other version past that. Gen 4+ relied on Wi-fi/temporary codes that expire (or cheating) for all their mythicals alongside the previous "right place right time" stuff so those ones are pretty much out the window
and anything past gen 7 doesn't even have the entire Pokedex in it anyways. Gens 1 and 2 also rely a lot on "right place right time" unless you're playing virtual console, and the original cartridges are prone to dying when they run out of battery so it's nearly impossible to consistently keep a full dex on those anyways.
Anyways, gen 3 sperging over. I find it to be the perfect generation in terms of cohesion and quality, despite its flaws, and whenever this gets brought up I feel the need to rant about it because nobody seems to notice it and I find it very very cool.
Even if it was hilariously scummy when it was still on the market.
