The drama about frosted caribou giving another generic safe opinion just reminds me that I don’t like any of these people and none of them play the game so their opinions don’t matter.

Frosted Caribou actually did play the TCG for a while before shifting over to casting. And now she’s retiring from the Pokémon IP in general too.
well shit
guess I'll get a basic one and get handy with the airbrush.
The non-Shiny ones are out-of-print IIRC, they aren’t available in stores and regularly resells for 80-100 bucks.

Her opinions are always just whatever is safest and doesn’t go against the popular opinions. I don’t like the people saying “I don’t like that this hobby is being so monetized” while also talking about the value of their collections from the side of their mouth and behind the back of their hand. Like lmao, what kind of sleeves do you play with?

Why is the bulbasaur one $54 I remember pulling these out of bulk boxes 12+ at a time back in the ex/DP era.

O.K. this is cutely creative.

lol at fire types still sucking though. Even for a low attack you always have to discard an energy card.
There was another in the set that was a bit better, but it required it having damage on it already.

I still have the geodude laying around somewhere
I like the geodude one the most. Having a fighting ditto always seemed cool to me as a kid.

Small, smooth-brain take: Pokémon evolution is a consequence of aging.

Large, wrinkle-maxed take: Pokémon evolution is a consequence of athleticism.

Is anyone else a bit shocked by TPCi announcing the new Pokémon XP fan experience running alongside Worlds in San Francisco next year? It's essentially the side event and activities portion of this year's Worlds being spun off into its own event.

Oh, and here's the pricing for said event.
  • Adult Multi-day passes cost $150 as a base but go down to $120 for early birds (or "Pidgey price" as the site puts it). Youth passes cost $100 base and $70 for early birds.
  • In addition to the above, multi-day also go up $30 across the board ($180/$90 standard, $150/$120 early bird) if you want access to Championship Sunday, which will take place in the Chase Arena.
No prices for single-day passes were revealed (those will go on sale in Spring 2026) but seeing as how this year's day passes were around $40 I'd expect them to go up to around $60-$70. Oh, and multi-day passes go on sale next month.
TCG:

Juniors: Yuya Okita (Japan)
Seniors: Fuguan Liao (China)
Masters: Riley McKay (Canada)
Since I'm the main TCG guy I should probably explain what each winner's decks was and why they did well.
Okita was running a Raging Bolt ex/Teal Mask Ogerpon ex deck with Noctowl support and that deck focuses on dealing massive amounts of damage as a rapid pace, mostly due to each Ogerpon in play suppling an extra Grass Energy attachment per turn with some assistance being provided by Professor Sada's Vitality. The Noctowl line specializes in Trainer searching so long as you have a Tera Pokémon ex in play and that Team Rocket's Watchtower isn't.

As far as the other competitors are concerned they had some powerful decks (Dragapult ex/Dusknoir, Gholdengo, a Milotic/Farigiraf deck that specializes in walling, Charizard/Pidgeot, etc.) but very few of them had some form of counter to Noctowl.
Liao's deck was a Gholdengo/Joltik Box deck, a mish-mash of two power archetypes (Gholdengo and Joltik Box) that's fairly new to the competitive scene and was run by three people at Worlds. Most people were prepared for Joltik Box (only one was present in the Top 64 for Masters, two if we include Gholdengo/Joltik) but the combination of two power archetypes is something that is both power and untested, something that may have led to players thinking that the double-hitter being was too risky to run at Worlds.

Also, it's worth noting that Liao won the Seniors division while China isn't up-to-date on the TCG yet, the country won't be caught up with the rest of the world until sometime next year.
McKay's deck was Gardevoir ex, a deck that's been fairly consistent in the tournament scene since Gardevoir ex was released back in SVI. The main difference I see with McKay's build compared to others is that he's running Flutter Mane for Ability block and damage spread while others would run Drifloon for massive damage or running Jellicent ex for both Item and Tool block.

As to how it won I have to agree with a lot of people in scene saying that people underestimated it, it has good counters to rest of the meta (Dragapult and Raging Bolt get smacked by Lillie's Clefairy ex, Scream Tail helps snipe any weak bench 'mons, you can use Mew ex's Genome Hacking in a pinch, etc.) while other deck match up to it or fall short of it.
Oh, and to anyone thinking that ANY of these decks are a good investment competitive-wise I'd be a bit wary right now due to Mega Evolutions coming out next month and all cards in the G Rotation Block being rotated out in about eight months.

To be fair part of the monetization problem stems from investorbros being obnoxious douchebags and scalpers buying out entire stores. I've never had a problem with people discussing the values of their collections in the past but I will admit that the recent rise of scalpers has made me less tolerant of that side, especially when they bitch about certain chase cards dropping in price.

Not at all, this has been known about since the Teraleak nearly a year ago jesus. It's just more Kanto wank for the 30th anniversary, and given that it's in San Fran it'll probably be a magnet for perverts and bums within the first 24 hours. I'll be surprised if there isn't at least one kind of horrible crime there by the end of the event.

What I am shocked about is the omniband from Champions, which seems to be bringing back every fucking gimmick like all the retards on Twitter were insisting was going to happen.

And, because Gamefreak doesn't like using their brains to make sense, they decided to explicitly hint at Tera and DYNAMAXING on the other sides of it.

DYNAMAXING.

GREAT, JUST WHAT EVERY COMP PLAYER WANTED BACK
.

I seriously don't know who this is supposed to be for anymore. I guess it's supposed to be retard containment for all the stupid gimmicks they've put out, or something? Some way to get people to stop bitching that they're leaving battling features behind. Comp players are going to wrinkle their noses and vomit at the Dexit and addition of dynamaxing, casuals aren't going to give a shit because either they'll have access to the insta-dyna-win button and get bored quickly or they won't and they'll not care for the intricacies of competitive Pokémon battling, little Timmy is probably going to get filtered by the convoluted systems needed to actually obtain Pokémon ("what? My 'rental license expired' and I can't use my Sneasler anymore? But I bought that Sneasler fair and square! What do you mean I have to win ten battles to afford it for real?"), etc. etc. Maybe it's just a tool to milk Poketubers for cash or something, and later down the line it'll get used to spot who's the shill and who's the actual fan (especially since Worlds 2026 is going to be Champions-only).

Alternatively, this is just Gamefreak taking out any online battling component from the next mainline games so that they can force people to buy more peripheral shit and squeeze more money out of them. That's my bet. The game's already "free to start," with a paid version on Switch, so it's not like it's free of scummy microtransactions or anything lol.

Oh, and, Z-A has Battle Royale-style PVP and online battles in there or whatever. Who cares. Worlds sucked, best thing about that event was the branding.

Hell, it happened this year too. Someone stole a competitor's backpack filled with decks and other Pokémon-related goods on Day 1 (thankfully it ended well, the guy got his stuff back and the thief was arrested). The thief was a South American player with a bad reputation, he's apparently known for stealing from Chilean stores.
What I am shocked about is the omniband from Champions, which seems to be bringing back every fucking gimmick like all the retards on Twitter were insisting was going to happen.
It's worth noting that they said not all gimmicks would be usable in any given season. This year's VGC season will only allow Mega Evolution once Champions is released.

Really makes me wonder what blind retard decided to book Worlds in CALIFORNIA two years in a row. In current fucking year.
I could say the same for them hosting Worlds in London back in 2022 but apparently it went well despite the problems London is known for.

And, if I'm being honest here, this year's event wasn't too bad. As long as you stayed near the Disneyland resort area (which the Anaheim Convention Center is adjacent to) then your chance of encountering the worst of what Cali has to offer is substantially less than the average.

San Francisco is going to be interesting. They've hosted Worlds there in the past (it was held at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis back in 2016) but this is the first time it'll be spread out around the downtown area, the announcement mentioned that both the Moscone Center and Yerba Buena Gardens will be used in side events and activities. I can only hope that San Fran can clean up its act in a year but I doubt it.

Wasn't Worlds 2020 originally planned to have been in London, with Sword and Shield's Galar region being based on the UK, but then COVID happened and pushed those plans back? The said pushing back also probably prevent a Spain event from happening with Scarlet and Violet's Paldea region being based on there, but Paldea doesn't feel like Spain at all, compared to Galar feeling like the UK, Alola feeling like Hawaii, Kalos feeling like France, and Unova feeling like NYC.

And with 2 back-to-back Cali events, clearly there couldn't be anywhere worse that TPCi could think about doing? With them only doing events in the US, one in Canada, one in the UK, and one in Japan, would they do an event outside of the US? I don't think South Korea would be considered because of the Korea-Japan animosity being is still a thing, even though it dropped off significantly over time and after SK lifted their ban on Japanese cultural products in the 2000s. With China now getting TCG print-runs, and Liao becoming Mainland China's first World Champion, would China be considered as a future event location?

This always was, and always will be, a "competitive" game for people too stupid to fire up Showdown. Nothing more. Unless Nintendo or TPCi sends a C&D, which they likely will, it's not going anywhere.

What this DOES mean is that future Pokemon games, starting with potentially Gen 10, might just not have online battling anymore. They removed Pokemon, people complained but the devs didn't care. They removed moves, same thing, they removed Battle Tower, nobody really cared cause only casuals played SV. They removed GTS and replaced it with HOME, they will probably remove Battle Spot and replace it with Champions. One more corner to cut for incompetent Gamefreak devs.

The key point you got wrong was the issue is t the devs didn’t care, it’s that the people actually buying the games (many of whom were the most vocal about Dexit) didn’t actually care. You can bitch all you want, but the only ballots that matter come from a gun or a wallet.
