Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

I wish Digimon had a new game coming, because right now it would be their time to shine.

It would also be funny/poetic justice.

It'll be on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and the PC sometime next year.

This has made my decision as to which starter I'm using. I like the Scorbunny line's designs way better than Grookey and Sobble's final evolutions, plus I already have an affinity for Fire types.

What starters are you guys picking?
I’m gonna probably go with scorbunny too, but it’ll be a few days due to me driving to Atlanta for a fighting game tournament. Anyone know if they put a deer pokemon in this one? For some reason the furry bait is making me want to name some of the mons after characters from Beastars.

I could go through the second round of monster rpg wars, the last real contender for popularity was yokai watch so it feels like pokemon has been uncontested since that faded out, pokemon has rested on its lorals for too long

Monster Rancher is supposedly coming back next year but IIRC it's going to be Android/IOS bullshit and not a real game.

Personally I would like a Dragon Quest Monsters game that uses unreal 4 just like 11 did.

Cyber Sleuth Complete just launched on Steam (along with the Nintendo Switch). It's a port of a Vita game that was originally ported to the PS4 as well. It's essentially a mix of SMT Nocturne (the character artist worked on Devil Survivor and Digimon shares many of the same themes), Pokemon Colosseum, and the better Digimon seasons.

While it doesn't have every Digimon, Complete Edition adds in the Hacker's Memory Digimon into the original and essentially merges the two games. It then makes up for not having every Digimon with an interesting story, animations on par with Colosseum/XD and older console Pokemon games, smooth 60fps gameplay, and a memorable soundtrack from Masafumi Takada (who worked on a lot of notable games). Sadly the English translation is low budget and it shows at times, but it's easy to overlook and is nothing compared to the trashfire of Sword and Shield. It's pretty much that console Pokemon game you've always wanted but never got.

The general attitude on /vp/ back in Spring was that the games would be soulless cash grabs. Stopped paying attention for a while, heard about the dex cuts and I legitimately thought I was being trolled. I'm genuinely disappointed with this franchise and I'm just sticking to the old games.
I never understood the sentiment of "they ruined my childhood" until now. I feel old. It's less of a feeling that the games are getting bad, and more of a revelation that they may have always been soulless corporate nonsense.

Yeah I've got both on PS4.

They do scream budget and neither game did particularly well IIRC.

I think what a lot of people miss with the whole dex cut argument isn't necessarily the people who want to catch them all, it's more about people upset they aren't able to use their favorite Pokemon like they've always been able to. I think that's a major part of that, the nostalgia factor of those maybe one or two Pokemon you really loved being sent to the gutter.
I think Game Freak severely undervalued the nostalgia factor that helped them limp through the last few generations. No matter how bad stuff got, you could always get the Pokemon you enjoyed most. Hell, for me, I always made sure the Treecko line was part of any playthrough I made, be it the main storyline or the postgame, simply because I beat all of Ruby with just my starter. It made the elite four a real fucking slog, a complete accomplishment because I was a dumb kid who didn't actually plan my movesets. Having the entire pokedex in every game in the past was betting on nostalgia, and now that the rose tinted goggles are off, people can see that everything around them is shit.
Even if you are the luckiest guy in the world and can successfully assemble a team with all your favorites, you probably still have at least one friend who is bummed out that a lot of their favorites haven't made it, which hurts your own experience. The dex cut is really one of the most awful moves for the franchise, and that applies for everything from casual to hardcore players.

It's starting to spread to people questioning other Nintendo franchises now.

All those Breath of The Wild 10/10's are now suspect because of IGN's Pokemon Review

I feel as if I have been vindicated.

I'm admittedly not a big nintendo guy, all I know is that GameFreak is a shit and Masuda has bugs in his ass. If you guys are annoyed, look into the guy who runs Serebii, Joe Merrick Who actually claims to be related to the elephant man lul, he's the biggest corporate cock slave I've ever seen. He's the Yin to Pomfret's Yang.

IGN and others giving the game a high score does not affect me in any way to be honest, i don't pay attention to reviews in general. If i'm on the fence on a game i typically just wait a few days after release and watch a few gameplay videos then decide.

However some of the people on both sides of this shitshow are beyond belief, like guys it's just Pokemon...i've been playing since Red/Blue and i have never understood the cult like mentality of some of teh fanbase.

I just want to be able to run around with stick monkey and crow without picking a side.

Interesting but no one has trusted game journos for years, this is just another example of it

I think the big issue is that they kept lying about why more then anything,

If anything I just want to see how the series deals with the aftermath, this will be a shitshow within the community for a couple months. should be fun to see

TPC clearly knew about the nostalgia factor. It's why they pushed the "original 151" so much, down to Pokemon Go launching with solely them. Normies know about the original 151, maybe the new Pokemon from Gold/Silver, and a few of the highly marketed ones or furbait from the newer generations.

Sword and Shield doesn't even have all 3 of the original starters. Many fan favorites and iconic Pokemon were cut as well. Even some of the heavily marketed Pokemon from the past who made appearances in spin-off titles or crossover titles were gone. Then there's the fact that older Pokemon and moves were cut, especially when Game Freak made sure to avoid a repeat of the issue where Pokemon from Gens 1-2 were not transferable to 3+ for years.

Cyber Sleuth also didn't have every single Digimon and it makes sense when there's around 1,300 with many being reskins/variants. But they made sure to cover the bases when it came to the most popular Digimon. Sword and Shield couldn't be bothered to do that.
