I laughed.

Johto's honestly my favorite region. It's rich in lore, had new typing that had to get me to rewrite what I knew of (some of) the original 151, it was a new region that blew my nine-year-old mind, the graphics were better than Yellow, the music was better (and freakier, I hated going through the Ilex Forest and Union Cave alone in the room because I thought I was being watched), I loved the Pokémon and character designs, I just loved it. I was most excited to get Silver because it meant I could go get Lugia, and after Pokémon 2000 and the third movie, I thought the Legendaries were so awesome. Only thing I hated was the Ice Path because I couldn't solve the puzzle well on my own, so I needed help each time I went through it.

I remember stepping foot on Tohjo Falls for the first time, and I nearly dropped my GBC in shock that Kanto was in the game. I don't recall my friends mentioning it or whatnot, but that was the best thing ever, and exploring Kanto and seeing how it changed in three years (in-game) was mind-blowing, while also rather sad. Viridian Forest's deforestation was really harsh, as well as the Pokémon Tower turning into the Lavender Town radio tower that you couldn't even explore, ever, but I loved how Mt. Moon made up for its shorter path by giving us the Clefairy dance every Monday evening. Fighting Lance took a while, that cheating bastard, but that was super satisfying, and that makes the credits my favorite credits in any Pokémon game (second's Gen III's credit music). I remember not pushing any buttons for a bit because I was doing something or whatever, and the second half of the song played and I cried, it was so pretty.

But managing to climb Mt. Silver all the way through and encountering Red was the biggest plot twist of my childhood, I swear. I had a freak-out over it, and it's a wonder I was even able to beat Red lol (fuk u Snorlax). I was at my friend's house then, and even she couldn't believe it. Kids these days I don't think would've ever experienced it like this, or at least not like how kids back then did. I have wonderful memories with Gen II, both the above positive, and some negatives like the previous mention of my brother starting over my save file, and when I tried the cloning glitch for my friend because some kid the day previous had shown it to me, and I yeeted her Mew and Suicune.

Johto will always be special to me. That's why HGSS being as good as they are is like a small miracle (Rock Climb was an odd addition as an HM, but my Ampharos handled it alright, so I can't complain), and it sucks Game Freak dropped the ball so hard with ORAS when there was a lot of potential and room to make Hoenn better as a worthy remake.

Speaking of Kanto and Johto, you know how Fuchsia City's safari zone is abandoned and in shambles? I like to think the ruined zoo area in Brawl's Subspace Emissary is a reference to that, despite it being more of a nod to the Mother series iirc. Though considering characters from both IPs meet there it could be both.

Big galaxy brain autism crackpot theory: Porky's chimera project eventually evolved into pokemon after overtaking normal animals
100% not true but a dumb shower though.

I always wondered if there was something up with that green haired Nurse Joy.

Edit: This one, also from Fuchsia City:

Probably just a sight gag, but little me thought maybe she was connected to Team Rocket or something.
If it's a coloring error, the translation team got smart and had some NPCs question her as well.

I loved X/Y and the Kalos region personally * I'm an Amerifag and found the French like aesthetic cool and the hard rock remix of the battle theme was bitchin * although my last game prior to X was OG Ruby so maybe my opinions not the best
I've been thinking off-and-on about what the parents' perspective must've been like during the Pokémon craze and all that money they spent for their kids lol. Looking back on it, it seemed like so many adults were just confused about the whole thing, the only ones who seemed to have fully understood its appeal were the game and comic book stores because, well, nerds. My parents saw it as a fad, but it made us kids happy and we were interacting with others instead of just playing with each other and I was making friends at at school, so they shrugged it off and would buy a pack of cards every couple weeks or something like that--we'd actually get Pokéemon cards in our stockings every Christmas for years even after popularity waned. It still took about a year before we were able to get the games, though, Yellow made my eighth birthday really special. That Christmas also was special because Dad had gotten Mom the 2.B.A. Master cassette tape and knew that if they played it, we'd hog the tape, and it turned out to have been the only thing besides food that could pull me away from Pokémon Puzzle League. I still have the entire album memorized.

I did find it to be weird that Mom was interested in it because she has never liked anime, and never cared about our cartoons. She found Sailor Moon to be creepy, and yet Pokémon was a-okay because it was a cute show that had an interesting world with magical creatures and a sense of adventure (yet she never stayed to watch Digimon with us 🤔). So she was able to watch most of the first series with us kids though I think it really picked up for her with the Hypno episode because of Psyduck, and to this day she still adores Psyduck as her favorite Pokémon.

She stopped caring for it by the time Ash was hitting Johto because she realized it wasn't just a fad like she originally believed, it was gonna be a whole series, and she had better things to do lol. But she never hated Pokémon, never got suckered into the Satanic angle of it despite us being religious (we like Harry Potter and she and Dad grew up having played D&D, so I don't think Mom ever believed the hype), but she did hope that us kids would outgrow it eventually. Maybe. One day. If ever.

Okay, reminiscing over. What were other kids' experiences like back then?
My parents have generally been easygoing about this stuff * probably helps that my old man is a huge Transformers, comic and Star Wars nerd but he could put a puritan to shame when it came to nudity though. *

Gen 2 for how fucking mind boggling that shit was as a kid, visiting Kanto after the E4 and basically getting a whole new adventure. I think seeing how Kanto changed is insanely cool I loved how things like the Pokemon Tower became the Radio Tower and the Power Plant changed after the events of Gen 1. It's not as engaging since they're not areas with wild pokemon and stuff, but the concept of people changing those landmarks into something new is great for world building.
But to this day, Machop is still flattening the ground for a future building.

So GF fucked up the gift Zeraora that you were supposed to receive if you have a Home account, it apparently can't be used in online features like raids despite being legal due to GF failing to update their hack checks in a timely manner.

They also caused the newest rotation of raids to cause the game to crash after completing them due to one of the item rewards being the Crown Tundra's version of Armorite Ore.

Nah, green and blue hair are natural in anime world.

Ah Game Freak, you never fail to disappoint. :story:

This really makes me wonder. Clearly, this raid set was for post-CT, but... why? Why lead off with this one?

Since I basically have infinite time (working from home and there's little to no work to actually do, in a new city where I don't know anybody, and the wu flu keeping me from going out and meeting people), I've started actively breeding stuff for the first time since gen 6. I went ahead and did Galarian Rapidash, since I already had everything I needed, although it took a little longer since I wanted it in a Dream Ball and to have Pastel Veil (its only ability that isn't totally useless). I'm currently working on a physically defensive Defog Corviknight set. I've got a ton of breeding stock stored in Pokemon Bank, so I think I may actually do a bunch of that in Y/Alpha Sapphire/Moon/Ultra Moon, but I'll have to see what's actually there.

I also started messing around with Pokemon Home a bit more. Sorting stuff in the mobile version is a pain in the ass, as there's apparently no way to directly replicate the order you have stuff in in the Switch version. Gotta collect that mobile data, I guess. I'll probably move my living Pokedex over to Home from Bank later this year.

I put my pokemon in the bank on Moon, the living dex should be on Ultra Moon, but now I don't have to pay it anymore :)

Anyone have an extra shiny zeraora or nah?

Some minor Pokemon Masters stuff.

Serena was recently added with her partner being fennekin. Although, does anyone know if her Fennekin was canonically male?View attachment 1421525
From what I heard, didn't they do something just as perplexing by giving the gen 4 female protagonist (Dawn) a turtwig instead of a Piplup like most other media did?
