Should sticker notifications be brought back?

There's always been an automatic feature and a button for that. Some of you nerds really gotta read the announcement thread: https://kiwifarms.st/threads/private-direct-messages-chain-spam-issue.185223/page-63#post-17883282

And now you might have to actually read threads in general, owned.
Mad at the Internet
And that's a bad thing. Threads already get cluttered up, the last thing we need is 20 people replying to a post saying "right on bro" or "lol no".

This entire comment could have been replaced by a :disagree: sticker, and neither you nor I are better off for me spending 2 minutes to type it out.

If Poll stays at 20% no stickers 80% yes stickers, will Jersh go total Sticker Death and ban 80 percent of his followers?

or is 80 percent of us Autist who need stickers walk away?
Burn it down fuck it all!
Null is Nimrata

Null is a streetshitter

Not surprising with his diet of pizza, hollandaise sauce, and diet coke. No man could hold his sphincter for more than a few seconds with that kind of mess moving through him

Maybe someone who isn’t a megalomaniac can make a site?

It's nice having the watched threads at the top - I had it bookmarked but I assume most people didn't use the feature.

I also used the notifications to keep track of stuff because I like the site and there's a lot of threads on here that are worth reading. One time I mixed up a name and someone replied to me saying "you mixed up the name, dumbass" which was helpful but other people would consider that clutter.

I'd just revert it all back.

I couldnt imagine moderating when people are getting ass mad about neg rating. That said, it was more funny to see people get assmad about neg rating.

See, if Null's just mad about stickers, why even allow them at all? If it bothered him this much, he'd do away with stickers entirely.

He's already deincentizing 'gamifying' the reaction score by doing away with it entirely. Negrating has no meaning anymore, so spergs cant complain about it, and leaving stickers open isn't going to create genuine dialogue like @Blobby's Murder Knife is suggesting.

Taking away sticker notifications has nothing to do with addressing any of those greivances.

To be completely honest, the sticker score made me a more thoughtful poster. It caused me to consider if what I was writing was actually worth posting, that meant I’d usually only post if I could meaningfully contribute instead of just shitting up a thread with “what a faggot” or “shits gay” (not that I didn’t still occasionally do that).
I think it worked, I had about a 10:1 ratio of likes to posts, so clearly I wasn’t being too retarded.
It also provided a nice easy way to check if someone being a retard in a thread was just having a one off or if they’re a serial offender dipshit. I know this isn’t a ground breaking position just confirming I also used it as a tard check.

The score system became kind of pointless in general once you had enough points that negrates didn't really affect it anyway. The only thing I ever used the score for was looking to see if an exceptionally retarded comment was posted by someone with an exceptionally low score. Which usually mean they're a troll that can be completely ignored without a second thought.

Sticker notifications were being used for a lot of things, or they were fast and convenient proxies for other less-convenient buttons. Null freaked out about 1 aspect and nuked the entire functionality without making new proxies, or making the other buttons more convenient.

I find it hard to believe 80% of the site were using the site wrong, or causing so much trouble over stickers that they needed to be swatted down, or degrading threads just to farm karma points. Just hide the complainers' scores or sticker reaction. Forcing everyone to act, react, and navigate the same way is retarded.

I'm in favor of restoring the notifications at a minimum, for most or all of the reasons mentioned above.

As far as it affecting the opinions of posters or the willingness to express unpopular opinions, I think it can do both, for sure. But it's also a mechanism to communicate shared values and beliefs.

Humans rely on a lot of complex social cues and testing "in real life" to create communities that are obviously not possible online so I don't think it's unreasonable to use reaction stickers as a proxy for that. For example, I determined fairly quickly that I am not an "A & H" person for the most part based on how different posts are received.

This isn't unique to this site. Years ago I noticed an increasing shift in the Reddit userbase and determined I was out of sync with them and stopped using the site. That's a good thing, in my opinion. I don't think anyone would argue that I should have spent my time trying to adapt my thinking to fit in there.

Finally, I think reaction scores should be visible again. It's a useful metric for me when encountering outlier opinions, dramatic accusations, or challenging perspectives. There are several threads which by their nature tend to have gay-oppy aspects where people are pushing agendas for reasons not clear in their posts. The reaction score can be a proxy variable for the reliability of a user and it's helpful when parsing a lot of new information and deciding how much weight to give to a particular piece of information.
