Poly is unpopular even in San Francisco. The dating apps are clogged with neon-haired 4s insisting they are “ethically non-monogamous.” Most people hate them though, since they amount to a midden of unwanted obstacles between them and their next date.

Gay people have different rules, but dating is different for them anyway.

This is the crux of the matter. Poly people talk nonstop about how you have to be “mature” and learn to “communicate.” But what you really have to do is tolerate sleeping around. They will tell you to read books or go to therapy, but those are only incidental approaches to the real goal of letting your gf openly cheat on you without hard feelings. Maturity and communication are vague concepts which theoretically enable this unspoken goal. But do they really? We all know many effective communicators with mature demeanors. And yet, few if any of these people respond apathetically to jealousy.

A surprising number of millennials believe that maturity is about suppressing natural and appropriate feelings of jealousy. This is in fact a deeply immature attitude. Jealousy is a normal feeling. Denying it is not healthy, it is counterproductive. It cannot be willed away, and yet poly beliefs require that just that must happen.

The poly cultists tell themselves, “I only need to master myself, and then I can fuck anybody I want.” The truth, however, is that you cannot fully master yourself. A human is a creature of both reason and instinct. Maturity is accepting that some things are not possible, and reconciling oneself to that reality. To do otherwise is immature.

This reminds me of a review I read on the movie "Silver Linings Playbook" by a guy named Miles Mathis.

Long excerpt:
Now let's study the plot. Husband Pat finds his wife in the shower with another man and beats him up. Everyone around Pat, led by psychiatrists and state workers, uses this to label him violent and bi-polar, drug him up, and then put him in an institution. No one in the movie finds this strange. Rather, the director of the film uses every trick in his arsenal to make the audience agree with the psychiatrists and state workers: a man who gets mad when he catches his wife in the shower with another man is mental.

The sane reaction to such a situation is to ask them if they need any shampoo, I suppose; or to walk out the door, stroll calmly to the drugstore, and buy a year's supply of tranquilizers.

Actually, that part of the plot is told to you as backstory, which conveniently keeps you from questioning it. It just burrows into your brain like an alien worm inserted into your ear. It is
surrounded by bad jokes and fast dialog, and you will have swallowed it before you even knew it was in your dinner.

This is so easy to deconstruct, folks. The government doesn't want you to think you have the right to feel any real emotions, or, worse, to act on them. If you feel mad or sad or even happy, they want you to think you have gone mental. They want you to believe the only sane response to the world is a flat acceptance. Even a shrug of the shoulders is suspect, because it indicates you may be hiding your true feelings. You aren't allowed any true feelings.

That is what “bi-polar” is telling you, you know. They are trying to sell you the idea that mood swings are unnatural. Just as they have labeled kids' natural energy as ADHD, they have labeled adults' natural moods as bi-polar. People are supposed to have mood swings, but they don't want you to believe that.

People are supposed to feel both happy and sad, provided they have some reason to feel either way. Life here on Earth provides highs and lows in abundance, so we should look sideways at people who do not have mood swings, not those who do. If you don't have mood swings, you are a zombie in training.

But that doesn't suit the drug pushers. They see human nature not as a given, but as another thing they can exploit for profit. They want to turn every action and thought into a symptom they can medicate.

This movie is selling four things, and is not selling them subtly. First, it is selling the idea that being a man (or a human) is now unacceptable behavior. Fifty years ago, the same scene in a movie would have been read the opposite way: the wife would have been seen as an adulterer, the other man would have been seen as a creep who got what he deserved, and Husband Pat would have been seen as a hero. If Husband John Wayne had thrown other man out the window on his head, no one would have blinked an eye.

Longtime lurker who made this account just to say thank you. I live in an area where "free love" (codeword for swinging and poly shit) is often touted by those around me as the truest, purest, and best form of love, the ultimate goal and bestest ever relationship. It's suffocating, nauseating and horrific. If you refuse to cuck yourself, you're seen as proto-abusive, because "don't you want your partner to be happy?"

To be honest, I was breaking, it was getting to me. I feel like I get surrounded by people like this and seriously gaslit into believing this is the way the world is now. I've expressed issues with polyamory online before, and just got told to "read books and go to therapy". Even googling polyamory sends you to crack psych blog posts telling you that "it's not about you, it's about your partner". It sounds stupid, but places like this remind me that I'm sane. I feel like I'm being brainwashed at every corner to resign to a life of being cucked, but nothing is more empowering than remembering these people aren't the majority. Most of these stunted twenty-somethings grow out of it. It'll pass.

The recent online predominance of pro-poly anti-monogamy shit is a serious problem that seriously fucks with people.

I was browsing Misha Collins' (plays Castiel in Supernatural) wikipedia page and I noticed he has been married since 2001. I thought to myself "wow, a celebrity who has been married that long? And he got married in his mid twenties? Amazing!"

I was very positively surprised. Then I did some more digging, and found his wife authored this

FWIW they seem to raise their kids well. Misha constantly posts about the kids learning to use tools, cooking, having direct contact with nature (plants, bugs and whatnot), taking donations to the poor and so on (I'm not a Supernatural fan, I follow him for his parenting style...it's nice to see kids learning useful life skills from a present father figure and not being neglected, coddled and/or raised to become self-centered little dipshits addicted to screens).

Perhaps they make an effort to keep their kids blissfully unaware of their sexual proclivities (hopefully)

I remember reading a post from a fan praising Misha for being at a con greeting fans instead of being with his kid on his birthday, so I doubt that.
The fact that he posts so much of their kids lives on social media when theres so many crazy SPN fans out there just raises huge red flags for me.
 
Jesus. Imagine the stds in that "relationship anarchy cuddle puddle". Maybe there's an evolutionary and medical reason to be in a relationship and not encouraging that sort of thing.

There used to be some progressive club in the... 60s was it? I don't remember. They did some political activism and aside from that operated as a poly clusterfuck where they all made themselves sleep with each other, irregardless of sexual preferences (the men had gay sex "for the team" but gave up because they couldnt get into it). They all had a sexually transmissive rash that they nicknamed "[group's] std" and prided themselves on.
Maybe these poly fucks see stds the same way.
 
I can imagine. It seems like even since then, it's always been the same type of people as well. Same-looking, even. This has been talked about to death a couple years ago, surprising to see that even after all this time, exact same type of people with just as much lack of self awareness. I wonder why this is. Dorky glasses/overweight or stick figure dnd type dudes with gender non-conforming equally dorky "liberated" gfs. Every couple posts or so is about jealousy, STDs, conflict of some kind or sexual issue. Sounds like it functions now as well as it did back then.

Sidenote, seeing them unironically post cuck memes (playing my wife's boyfriends Nintendo switch while he fucks her) with captions like "same!" and "goals!" is disheartening and pathetic.
