Possibility of a shadow government/deep state

I have generally been ruminating on this for a while now as I have been getting into more schizos theory lately. One of those theories so happens to be the idea of a deep state or secret shadow government that is the real state of power within the American government and controls the country itself while everyone else dismisses it as a mere conspiracy, but I reckon there could be actual evidence of a clandestine upper echelon government working through our current elected government that goes back quite a bit.

The real deep state is the original meaning of the term. An unofficial coalition of bureaucrats who have become very comfortable with their jobs and conspire to keep them, normally using administrative fuckery to get what they want and keep their cushy, overpaid positions. This is what the term Deep State actually means, and every country has one. Some of these bureaucrats are quite wealthy and probably get up to all kinds of debauchery behind closed doors, but when they pull the strings they mostly do it from behind a desk or by conversing with their fellows over drinks. They look out for each other knowing the system will protect its own so long as it stays cooperative.

Its much more loose and informal than I'm sure people want it to be, but that's the strength of it, and the primary reason its virtually impossible to abolish. What are you going to do? Fire all the bureaucrats? Who will do your paperwork for you? Exactly.

The deep state isn't even a conspiracy theory. All the unelected bureaucrats who stick around from administration to administration, from the fat bitch at the DMV to the deputy director of the FBI, are the deep state. The existence of the deep state is not remotely controversial.

If that is the case, then this Shadow Government hasn't been doing a good job of providing a clear path of what they're doing, considering Trump was able to allow the Patriot Act to expire - something that would drastically harm a technocratic secret society a la The Patriots of Metal Gear.

The concept of a 'deep state' itself isn't really new, nor unique to the US. During the colonial era, it was the colonial powers who ultimately held final say over anything their colonies/subjects tried to do, a "deep state" at its most obvious. A prime example would be how the Brits tried to control Rhodesian policies via the Governor General - the representative of the British Government who held supreme power over the Rhodesian government.

That aside, why would a hypothetical 'shadow government' restrict itself to just the US?

edit: It was just Section 215 that expired, and it was immediately supplanted by the FREEDOM Act which restored those authoritarian surveillance powers. I guess that was a 500 IQ move by a hypothetical Deep State. Basically, Trump helped the Deep State expand its powers, if it does exist.

Of course there is. last time we fought a civil war over it. It was Lincoln vs the deep state in the end and everyone called him a dictator for engaging in insane executive overreach to keep the country from breaking in two in the interest of not just the slave-holding southerners but also the global customers for their textiles, (i.e., international business interests) and spineless Republican defectors. One man vs the deep state and global economic interests. Sound familiar?

There is no one actively working from the shadows with malice and plans of world domination, just a bunch of people behind desks who are looking out of themselves and keeping their cushy overpaid jobs and cushy overpaid lifestyles. Its hilariously simple and it pains me to see conspiracy theorists overcomplicate something so god damn simple. Its just base human greed and an understanding that by protecting every other bureaucratic jag off, they won't open a can of worms that will lead to people not protecting them.

If you want to see this in action in a not totally boring manner, just watch a few episodes or clips of "Yes, Minister". Its an old British comedy that goes to painstaking lengths to be horrifically accurate when showing the how's and why's bureaucrats pretty much run everything and make shit tons of cash doing it. Sure its about the UK, but its the same for literally every (democratic) country on this planet.

You can look at the financial/business elites, entrenched bureaucracy and intelligence agencies.
Those are pretty much the ones that call the shots in most countries, in more traditional societies you can include the military and religious authorities as well.

The Black Lady at the DMV, the Cocaine Importation Agency and Slomo and his banks are rouge actors minding their own business at this point colluding to keep their cushy position at the expense of everybody else.
