Many fighting game aficionados were losing their minds from hype upons seeing this video April 1st:
While many though this was nothing but an April Fools joke, it seemed a bit too elaborate for just a hoax, not to mention that the footage was made using unreal engine rather than pre-rendered CGI. Lo and behold, apparently the showcased material was from a playable build created by Arika, who are now trying to either find a publisher for their project or to crowdfund it.
Originally developed by Arika, the Steet Fighter EX series was a realy fun part of the franchise that many remember fondly. While the title of best SF game usually goes to either Alpha 3 or 3rd Strike, many fans were craving to see the characters introduced withing the three EX games make a reappearance. Unfortunately, since said characters were created and are still owned by Arika, and Capcom has no intention of paying the licencing fees, the chance of seeing them in a Street Fighter game are slim to none, and Arika wasn't doing anything with them... till now.
As someone whose first experience with the franchise was EX2 and has been hoping Arika would just ditch all connections to SF and release a fighting game consisting exclusively of their own characters, I really hope this project will be realized, and it won't end up the same way Porject Ex, their attempt to make a fighting game for the 3DS, did. One can only hope!
