Europe's air traffic control network has warned commercial aircraft to avoid Syrian airspace due to a possible strike being planned in the next 72 hours.

DEFCON has been lowered to 4 over reports of military amassing air forces and the potential risks of a Russia vs. U.S. conflict.

Supposedly the British RAF is on alert in Cyprus.

There's also unconfirmed reports of the U.S. moving missile cruisers around in the Mediterranean and aircraft in Eastern Iraq.

I'm almost 99% convinced half the people insisting IT'S HAPPENING just want the smug satisfaction of "being right" just before a Russian nuke turns them into particles.

No country around wants to risk the utter anal devestation they'd receive for so much as considering pressing the Big Red Button. Even if they weren't glassed in retaliation, the sheer nightmare that would be everyone on Earth turning against them would most likely not be worth it.

Putin and Trump are prideful, near-senile assholes, not fucking Cobra Commander.

Also I can’t wait for some cows like Dobson to inevitably flip out and genuinely believe that nukes are gonna be dropped.

Yeah, that’s fair. I couldn’t vote in 2016, but even then I probably wouldn’t have because I loathed both options. Hillary was a manipulative scumfuck who basically bribed her way past the primaries, and Trump irritated me just by how he talked alone, never mind his “America first” bullshit.

But yeah, I’m just as tired of the “IT WAS HER TURN” crowd as I am of the “at least shillary would have done it sooner tho” side.

I'm not sure either Trump or Putin would push the button over this, frankly. Because they get off on being The Boss, and if everyone's dead bar them in their bunkers in Wyoming / the Urals (delete as appropriate) they'll be the boss of nothing and aren't effectively the boss. Making America Great Again does not by anyone's imagination involve nuclear armageddon. But then again, it would be a shame for humanity to extinct itself over who's the big swinging dick on the world stage. Depressingly likely though.

Either way, though, I'm probably fucked given my flat's proximity to the radar station I mentioned earlier. I'm gonna carry on regardless and if the sirens do go off, I'm just gonna go up on the roof with my favourite beer and some awesome heavy metal and, well I'd rather go quickly of total flash incineration than slowly of radiation poisoning and dying in a shitting, pissing, bleeding from every orifice, sightless, mindless, pain-wracked heap over a period of several days. Given that a single strategic nuclear weapon would consume the entire peacetime resources of the NHS, I shouldn't envisage any medical treatment in the event of radiation poisoning short of a bullet. Which I'd gladly receive, frankly, in the circumstances.

I like Trump as a person for a number of reasons, but if there's one thing that honestly concerns me about any situation like this is that he does not fuck around, and he seemingly doesn't know how to deescalate any kind of conflict he finds himself in. My honest opinion is that, while shit can go very bad in a hurry in this situation, he'll probably try to have a personal meeting with Putin if any kind of Russia V U.S. fighting occurs, considering that if Trump were forty years younger he'd be the "fite me irl m8" kind of person, and probably sort shit out on the back end in private talks so that we don't have to worry about eating giant naked mole rats.
