I opted to give the attacker 5 XMR. I did not pay him for information. He's a 17-year-old Turkish 14-year-old Kurdish (self-declared) kid and I wanted to encourage him to pursue cybersecurity for profit. He also could have potentially done a lot more damage if he was really trying to be malicious, so I'm grateful for that.

I don't know whether to feel comfort in the fact that the hack wasn't malicious or feel concerned that the site was successfully hacked by a 14 year old child from a third world country.

Dude any time you see a story of a really massive hack that took down the Department of Defense or some shit, it's almost always some autistic child.

The outcome of this is the guy helped Null find a hole a real malicious person could have used. He gets a few bucks and makes some no-fun users seeth. The site is stronger now and some lulz where had.

This is actually a model for how you should respond to a hack that doesn't harm you but lets you know of a vulnerability, instead of the current Nazi bullshit where massive corporations put some kid in solitary for years for doing nothing wrong.

It is so cool that in today's day and age, a 14-year old kid could have enough knowledge to be able to hack into Kiwifarms. And for FUN. I remember kids talking about how big and cool hackers they were when they didn't even know how to code an HTML site.
