I think Null trolled him right by banning him right when the autism is exploding.

For anyone reading this, I would advise taking a grain of salt with the advice of a man who couldn't contain his autism enough to keep from getting banned.

Oh, and speaking of that-

Hi Kirby.

Disagree, I'm seeing well-argued opinions usually respected. The notion that Chris isn't Hitler wasn't an easy sell for many people, yet people like Flowers for Sonichu could take really critical stances against the revered Chris trolls and still remain popular user because the discussion generally invites different opinions, just not shittily argued/presented ones.

Taking away positive ratings might cut down on the amount of people attention whoring,
Yeah, but this is a comedy forum after all, the attention whoring is built in our very concept. Just because people think that we're here to do some serious research into autistics that shit their pants or fight in the frontlines of a culture war doesn't detract from the Golden rule of funny.

It wasn't just one time, he's been doing this shit consistently for months. Are we supposed to ignore other farmers who act like that?
Asterisk is a good example of people not being able to force someone into bowing to the pack mentality no matter how many dumb ratings they pile unto a person. The pack mentality and bullying only works on weak-willed people who are too afraid of offending people by the virtue of simply having an opinion. He has a bunch of strong opinions on things, but I don't think his arguments are bad, it's the open attacking of other users in his posts that make them stick out.

Dude I can't get over how cool you are :o

Thanks man. You should rate me "Winner" if that's how you feel.

The current Designated Samefagging Zone is the James Terry Mitchell thread, not here.

I don't know who that is but thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to rate you a positive rating and hope not to trigger you guys with posts in the future.

How willing are people going to disagree when if they take any firm position on any type of disagreement - they are labeled the next cucky, Lord RainbowDash, Asterisk, Kirby, or any of the countless halals we have had here. Ratings did not create this group think. The desire to cut and carve for acceptance did. It is so predictable and so easy to replicate.

Wait a minute, this isn't just a case of him 'disagreeing' with the consensus. That user by his own initiative has left a trail of autism around the farms. He doesn't just rail against consensus opinions, he argues an exceptional way that makes him look autistic and try-hard. Most importantly, he doesn't even notice. I set up the most obvious bait thread I could get away with and he still filled it with essays about circumcision.

@SunLightStreak What If it's the users fault? They came to place that examines people who are exceptional and then they act exceptional. It wasn't just one time, he's been doing this shit consistently for months. Are we supposed to ignore other farmers who act like that?

A user can get away with plenty of shit here. Nobody is gonna notice occasional neg rates on other users.

Rin mentioned something about removing/restricting the dumb rating, that would probably fix all of this. What can't understand is how this has become so existential. It's just ratings on a random website. It shouldn't be this big a deal, or part of a thesis on how KF users behave.

This pretty much sums it up. I've gotten many, many negative ratings, but I've never felt that any of them have been acts of Internet violence or harassment, and even if I did, said feeling would still be retarded.

Hell, if I were the kind of person who felt like that, I probably wouldn't bother posting on any real forums at all. If I wanted to put anything out there, I'd just find a forum where there's no chance of anyone ever disagreeing with me for any reason, or no reason at all.

Anybody useful to have on any forum should be grown up enough to accept this.

Which is the only thing that really bothers me about negative ratings. Just think of all the wonderfully petty drama and bickering we've missed out on because people chose to express their insignificant grievances towards other posters by passive-aggressively down-rating them instead of starting an internet food fight. It's a shame really.

But these people are boring. In order for Internet drama to be worth following at all, it has to be potent and memorable. Anybody can get a decent-sized thread going if half the posts are just "you're dumb" or "you're autistic" or "you're @NostalgiaJazzAdmirer".

I guess SunLightStreak has been reading Nineteen Eighty-Four recently considering the huge crusade against conformity and group think.

There's no harm in my eyes in pitching suggestions for the rating system but there's nothing to be gained from getting so emotional over something that really doesn't matter that much. Even removing the ratings system altogether isn't going to "upend the forum," it's really not that big a deal

How many threads can I recreate this experiment in?

Disagree with established consensus.
Seem to take bait.
Have baiter get drawn in more.
Get other "trolls" come in to throw bait.
Get more of them drawn in more.
Get swarmed proving conformity and group minded nature of forum.
Issue is plain to see. Yet everyone ignores it because they like being in a pack.

Repeat the cycle.

Dynastia does this quite often and so do others like LIC. Often we laugh at the people dumb enough to swarm. The people who have a license to disagree strongly enough and not get plastered with the Halal seal.

It is not ratings that create this group think. It is the desire for halal enforced and encouraged by ratings. Ratings on their own are meaningless. It is the halal desire and need for acceptance that does it.

When you came into this thread to "recreate cucky", you recreated the exact events of NJA instead. NJA got branded as the "enemy" and so everything they said was taken in its most negative form to enforce a narrative that confirmed the bias of the group. I derailed a thread because everyone wanted a new "cucky".

Do you think you're going against the grain and making some sweeping statement when you pound out these walls of text?

I would like to offer another take on this. This forum has an element that has become highly dependent on these stickers. Particularly the positive ones. Does the behavior that comes from the desire to earn these things contribute positively or negatively? I'd argue negatively. What would the loss be from ditching thm? I would say meager but positive. Ditch the stickers or at least keep the autistic and a log stickers to subtly let people know they are being an irritant.
