We need that too. A jimmies rating, with a gorilla icon.

Not until there is a rating for every conceivable emotion as well as every meme from the past 10 years will my soul be complete.

Rating notfications literally only exist to gratify egos.
Without the notifications I think it takes away from the feedback aspect of it. Now you don't know what ratings you have on a post unless you go to wherever the post is and check it yourself, which accomplishes this idea of you only getting the feedback if you want it.

I think the issue is best solved by making rating feedback optional, even if it's set to a disabled state by default.
Feedback on my posts was important to me.

It kept me engaged in threads, made me start to recognize people who had rated me before, and let me know when I had struck a chord with people.
The forum is worse off for excluding the feature entirely. :(

Literally all you have to do to see your ratings. Hover your mouse cursor over your name on any page of the site, then click "Ratings Received". If it's that important for anyone to know what ratings they've gotten, it's that ridiculously easy.
That's missing the point. We want the information brought to us, not the other way around.
In my opinion, the Ratings Received section is no replacement for rating notifications.

Man, I'll admit it here just because no one else is going to: I care about ratings and I'm absolutely shameless about it. Everyone has their vices and my only one is getting shiny candy buttons on an online forum, which as they go is relatively harmless. Is it autistic as all hell? Sure, but so are all of you on a website where today we literally had people write multiple 1000+ word essays about a slapfight between our site owner and a man who used to run an imageboard for virgins wallowing in their own pity. Any normal people left when Cwcki Forums became Livejournal 2: Electric Boogaloo (i.e. they were never here).

Again, for the most part, I think our current rating system is fine. People are saying that the positive and negative ratings pressure posters into kowtowing to mainstream opinion, and there is truth to that, but I've read disco threads from 2013, the pre-ratings era, and they are no more diverse in opinion than disco is now. If there was a dissenting opinion, most people didn't write detailed responses as to why they didn't like it. The troublesome person would either get spammed with "wow that was shit u sukc" ":alog:" ":anna:" or just be ignored, meaning that they didn't even know that people didn't like their post, which I'd say is considerably worse than the system we have now. The only real difference between a dumb rating and saying "that was dumb" is that every negative rating you get goes on a permanent point count, ergo every post you make that people think is dumb contributes (albeit in a mostly insignificant way) to how outsiders perceive you later. It was a decent idea to get rid of that green-red bar for that reason, so you don't know what your ratio is to compare to others.
I can live without ratings notifications as long as you make the ratings show up in "recent activity" and the news feed again. I only used these features to get dossiers on posters' opinions of others and look at everyone's colorful stickers. Without them they're naked and pretty pointless. You should also bring that chart of ratings given and received back because I miss it.

They need to put it next to every user's name.

That way you know whether they have a really low one and it's okay to pile on with the rest of the rabid weasels.

Or you know they have a pristine rating and you can fuck it up just to be mean.

Can we have at least the old ratings list on our profiles? Having only likes listed in profiles yet still being able to receive other ratings (ie winner, autistic, dumb) and practically being able to see the total number of ratings everywhere else is kinda dumb.
