I don’t really like the rating score, since often we rate things „lunacy“ for example when the post itself is quite sane on the meta layer, but contains third party lunacy in the form of screenshots for example.
Then again nobody gives a fuck about the score either.

How are the thread highlights calculated @Null , is it a stock xenforo function or a plug-in? What’s the algo behind it, does react score matter?

I like to view them as essentially a one word reply. Let another user know you agree with them or you think they’re a retard without derailing the thread.

If what you would’ve posted could’ve adequately been communicated using a sticker, I recommend using the sticker. We already have too many posts that don’t add anything of value.

If that's the mod I'm thinking of, it's a paid thing (not such a big deal) but it fucked up users counts on the forum I own when performed a recount task and it's finally fixed in one of the 121 updates that have been shit out for it since. Relying on this kinds of 3rd party add-ons is a risk imo, especially when its creator has so many add-ons he can't even maintain them all and dumps them when his interest runs out. Maybe @Null shares my thoughts?

I don't think enough people feel this way about the Lunacy rating in order to turn it neutral. You could also say that we should turn the Islamic rating neutral. However these stickers still have uses in negative contexts; posting unspoilered gore, genuine schizo rants, deviancy. It's always good to have some variety with the negrates.
On the flipside, the Autistic rating is neutral but many still consider it to be a negative rating.

At the end of the day most kiwis have enough good ratings to tank the negrates, so no one really cares. If you do come across a post and want to 'honor' the poster, you could always drop an 'Informative' sticker. It's one of the more powerful ratings and should help balance out the stickers.
