So your first benefit is that it cuts down on worthless posts like yours, the other is that when a shitty post like yours gets enough dumbrates I can highlight hop directly to it when catching up on a thread.

I don't mind what they do - I really don't. I am just observing the behavior. Don't confuse the observation with what I weigh as its value which is nothing in particular. I'm more concerned with the state of mind of those that do it. Ask yourself what it would take for you to with intent go through, find people, wade through their posts and Neg rate them - I mean, that's the act of a pure Psycho.

Having been on forum without reactions, it's a good way to really lower the quality of threads. A whole shitload of '+1' and 'Agreed' (or their inverse of 'That's dumb') for every response that's actually funny, interesting or insightful (or that at least aspire to those qualities).

I also like being able to give positive ratings to people. I limit my responses to actual discussion, but if I don't have anything to actually say in response to a post I like I enjoy being able to drop a like.

You can turn the alerts on or off, so everyone should be happy. I give people stickers, prefer not to get an alert about it and this is customisable in preferences.
